So a month or so ago our vacuum cleaner stopped sucking (ooh-er), so I put it to one side to 'have a look at'. Meanwhile, the finance committee went out and spent £200 on a new one. Saturday morning I stripped the old one and found one of the spring loaded valves in the 'cyclone chamber' (cyclone my arse) had dropped out. It was a pushfit, back into place. 'Oh well' I thought. Might as well give it a proper service. New filters, clean and silicon on all the seals, and a good clean out with the airline... That's when the compressor seized. So now my handy man ego has taken a totalised £300 hit over the weekend. At least the mancave has inherited a FSH classic Dyson DC 01 for it's maintenance department...
I went home Friday night after work, stuck the kettle on.......... the fuse blew and I didn't have a spare one. So put a pan of water on the cooker to make my coffee. Sat down to watch TV, turned it on........... No Picture. Spent two hours trying to work out what was wrong, mate came round who used to work for one of those after sales electronics repair companies, did a few tests on it...... Tells me its F-cked and most likely isn't worth repairing (It's a five year old Flat Screen TV). Saturday, end up going to Curry's and spending £500 on a new TV.......... Oh and a pack of fuses to fix the kettle. So.............. I know how your feeling. Just as well I place my order for my RaceFit exhaust last week or it probably wouldn't have happened.
Thanks Jim That actually helps... I also succeeded at the weekend of talking the missus down from a ludicrously expensive holiday for next year (it's taken weeks) only to find that the, carefully constructed alternative to it is completely booked... Arse
And... On Saturday morning in Screwfix the lad behind the counter under charged me, so I played honest 'injun with him (because you don't really want to stitch people up), and I've just been into Machine Mart and the pimple with the name tag under charged me again, and again I put him right so's he doesn't get in the shit come stock take. I don't mind this 'reward in heaven' shit, but as a confirmed atheist, how am I likely to collect!?!
I would like to say I feel for you but actually I cant be arsed. But, if it makes you feel any better follow the below link to something involving my mate Martin and his son Harry (Harry is my son Jack's best mate) that will make you count your meagre blessings: Luckily Jacks face in the view gallery has been blocked out. www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/teenager-admits-crashing-dads-100000-9272482
Glad I ordered new jacket and trousers cos I think my dyson has just packed in after 8 years. I say think cos there's a burning smell, the motor sounds like a 125 with no exhaust and there's a lovely lightning show if you look under the motor filter
TBH I don't think Martin is bothered about the car or the financial aspects surrounding this, what's more concerning is that his son is now facing Crown Court for a drunken stupid decision he made that might now affect the rest of his life. This was the little boy that used to get frightened when he came for sleepovers with Jack. They grow up so fast and our only hope is that they stay on the reasonably straight and narrow until they have enough sense to understand the consequences of their actions. Whilst I don't condone what Haz did I do feel sorry for the lad. On a similar vein to the above paragraph, Jack is on his gap year at the moment somewhere in Bolivia last I heard. He has just blocked my access to his Instagram account and gone into radio silence, so I am starting to wonder what he is up to that he doesn't want me to know about.
Without taking any sides, I am glad there was no one walking down the pavement at that time or things could be very different! I don't condone drinking and driving as I knew someone who is no longer with us because of a drunk driver, no matter what the reason be. I guess until its your own wife, child, brother, sister, mum, dad, etc, you can have quite a light view of the issue.
David: Thank you for helping me stay grounded. There are many people worse off than me all over the world. Now I've been reminded of that I can cheer myself up by laughing at them. Alan: You're a git. RRoss: Our DC01 is like Trigger's broom. I think I've replaced every major part that left the factory over the last few years. Zips: Top Gear has lied to us all over the R8. Inferring that any idiot can drive them. I hold this image to be self evident.
As you say, things could always be worse, well usually anyway, lol Let hope things only get better for you now
Personally I have bugger all sympathy for the lad who nicked his Dad's car and crashed it after drinking. Might be young but it is still a tw*tish thing to do. As for affecting his future, well he's 19 and has to bear the consequences if his actions. Harsh maybe but he rolled the dice and lost.
Good luck with that! One of mine at Uni has been radio silent most of this term. Hope he emerges from it ok, and that you're ok too.
