Plugging Considerable discussion has gone into this question, but something happened to me yesterday, it's never happened before, (To the best of my knowledge). I got a puncture in the rear tyre, it was toward the end of its life 4000 Mile so I decided to replace it with a new tyre. I took the wheel to the tyre place and was watching the fitter perform his stuff. He got the old tyre off and said 'will you dispose of it as it costs me to do it' I took the tyre and found on the inside the nail that had punctured my tyre rolling around. I've not seen this before, but if I had plugged the tyre without taking it off, as I believe some do, the nail would have been whizzing around at goodness knows what speed inside the tyre attempting to get back out,. Could this be Dangerous.
Can't imagine it being dangerous. Half a nail in its own right will never gain enough momentum to do any damage to the wheel or tyre, and once moving would be held fast against the inner surface of the tyre by centrifugal force. Nonetheless, you would hear it rattling around disconcertingly whilst wheeling the bike around.
Not me, I'm mutton..... Ignorance is bliss But fcuk me, a tyre place asking you to dispose of your own tyres.... If of pissed my pants as I rode off without it lol
Yeah I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Been charged to dispose of my car tyres many a time, but pikey's are thin on the ground where I live so I guess you gotta pay the tyre guy to get rid
Roadside plugging kits are only designed to be a temporary measure until you can have the tyre professionally plugged, which involves removing the tyre to patch the inside so the nail would have been discovered anyway.
