Hi guys I need some more help here, I'm looking to buy some pvm wheels with 16.5 size, will I need spacers and all that stuff to make them fit? Can I use standard sprocket and brake discs on there and how easy is it to get Road tyres for these? My bike is for road use only.
Are the wheels available cheap etc? I think it's becoming a ball ache to even race on 16.5's (if not allowed at all) so i think your going to struggle tbh tyre wise.... Scooby is ya man, he will confirm. Personally I'd go Dymag or bst as you won't struggle at all and will sell on if needed no probs
There are more and more ads for 16.5" rims as folks try and get rid of them but you will find tyres getting harder and harder to acquire as the 16.5's got dumped from the major race championships for the stock size of 17" rims. Tyre manufacturers will slow down and probably stop if they haven't already producing the 16.5" tyres as the market shrinks and becomes less viable for them to invest in making the tyres. As said if your set on aftermarket lighter wheels stick with 17's, tyres same sizes as oem so lots of brands and latest incarnations will be available and wheels will still have a pretty decent resale value down the line.
you cant get road legal 16.5's 190's I don't think anyway.dont think they ever made them tbh as I've never seen a treaded 16.5,and was using them in 2007 aswell as now, pretty sure they are only made for race use,BSB,WSB etc. (obviously not any more).but, you could put a set of 16.5 inters on,and scrub the "not for road use" bit off the tyre, thats what we did on my mates bike. but, there are still plenty of tyres about, just old stock.most sets are 2012 at best, with some going down to 2006 (I've just lobbed 5 sets of 16.5' tyres a they are too far gone date wise, even for me ). but,i've just bought a bike with 16.5 rims (pvm's as it happens) and have no probs running them for 12-18 months.after that will just stick some 17's in there.
