These new bikes tend to be hyped by everyone, perhaps for advertising revenue or perhaps journos caught up in the pizzazz of a launch. I don't know, but if half the hype is true it's all things to all men! I have an old BMW I tend to tour on but its really not up to the company it keeps these days and I have to be waited for. and get lots of stick. So I would keep the blade, and sell the BM. use the new BM for commuting and touring.

Took one out on Friday....Used a full tank of fuel around North Wales
Its a bit ugly, it looks like an ant from the front. More than a passing nod to the Ducati MS

    Good stuff

It goes like stink, brakes are much better in every sense than the Blade (mines a 2012 ABS) quick shifter pro is soooo much fun, it pops and burbles on the over-run and the stock exhaust sounds great. The ESA is superb....I tried braking too late, whacking the throttle open on bends and couldn't really unsettle it.
160bhp and it uses all of them perfectly, fueling is spot on.
Comfy seat, racks for all luggage.
It drives and handles much better than it should. I was not riding full out as i didn't want to have explain if it all went wrong, but I suspect it will take some real stupid to overwhelm it.
    Bridgestone BT30 tyres worked well.
It was the fully loaded Sport SE model £14750 otr

    Niggles

Vibration on constant speed around 4800 - 5500 revs, to the point it tingles (not in a good way) and you cannot see what is behind you
Pegs are located just so they get in the way when you put your foot down
It was a little high on standard seat for me (5 foot ten) so the no cost low seat would be the choice for me. If you want to lower it to 790mm it is a cost option.

    Would I buy one....hell yes!

I'm tempted to go for test ride especially after riding my sp for the 1st time in a while and having aggravated my hip!

Had a second ride of the same S1000XR after a couple of hours on a demo Multistrada on Saturday....I wasn't impressed with the Ducati, it didn't feel like a 16k + bike (£950ish for luggae, centre stand and heated grips). more vibey than my initial ride on the beemer. Big V twin is not for me.
The luggage integration on the Ducati is superb, BMW should take note what a little thought can produce.

Anyway, second ride on the S1000XR, i still love it so I bought one in red, SE with all the trick bits. Girlfriend rode pillion both test rides she definitely preferred the BMW, although the quickshifter nearly caught her out. She was anticipating the lull for the gear changes, they didn't happen, just forward thrust, i could fell her going backwards.....luckily she stayed on.
Didn't notice the vibes if they were there, just power, smooth, handling....wow!
Delivery is now mid to late October, so I thought I can't be bothered racking 600 miles for 1st service just to lay it up (I don't do cold and wet) over winter, so deal done for March 2016 on the new year plate.....I have loads of time now to get all those jobs done around my house and others.....

oh, i ordered the no cost low seat option 'cos i am vertically challenged apparently in the world of germanic adventure sports bikes, 5 foot ten but would benefit the extra 20mm :)

Think someone may want to buy my old BMW, If it sells I may take the plunge and try the S1000xr .... I would have to sell my blade too so its a hard decision. what's a fair price, immaculate 2007 Repsol New Tyres, standard, 8000 Mile?

At the minute you may get £4700 if you're lucky. Wrong time of year to sell unfortunately :(

Well, the Blade went a month ago (still having withdrawls) and as you can see, my prediction of crap weather has been so off line, it is positively summer like and I am without a bike, so the BMW dealer has booked the bike out to me all day Friday...going to have to arrange some other demo rides!!

I know what you mean, compared to a blade, there seems to be a lot in front of you. Wide tank wide high bars. But that's the nature of the beast.

Looked at one this afternoon I like it so much so I have booked a test ride for the 17th, just slight reservations about the engine reliability I know of two s1000rr engine failures although they were the earlier models.

This one's de-Tuned a bit down to 160, should put quite a bit of longevity into it. Remember to say how you get on with the test ride,
    Mike.

Well, took it out again for 6 hours last Friday (although it is a newer demo bike with the 9K limit still on), weather was lovely but did keep the heated grips on low until midday.
Rode all over N Wales and I can honestly say I have made the right decision. It didn't seem as tall as I remembered from the last demo and the vibes were not very noticeable, but still there at certain revs. It certainly didn't make me consider cancelling my order. I only wish I had made the order in August instead of waiting til March......
It rides so well for what it is and is immense fun. Very comfy.
I know it is expensive but it does have some trick stuff. I know it can go expensively wrong, but I love the quickshifter, both up and down it performs flawlessly. Cruise is great and will come in handy for the Euro trips.
My mate picked his S1000XR up last week and is just on his way back from Scotland. He has put 1400 miles on since last Tuesday. He says it is great in the rain for protection and the panniers do not leak despite torrential rain yesterday. His only gripe is that it costs £3 more to fill on average over his 2007 Blade. Probably panniers, less aerodynamic. (He is lucky, he had kept his Blade as well).
I am hoping for another spell of sunny weather hits us so I can book demo ride number 4 :)

I think this bike may be my solution. sounds like it was designed with me in mind. I can sell my Touring and sports bike and do both jobs nearly as well. I'm just about ready to part with the old BM and i'm getting too creaky to go long distances on the blade, the last Ring trip was knackering.
