So nearly after a year after I broke my leg in Italy, and having been operated on twice already…and now my legs bent by 14 Degrees..just above the ankle Going for my 3rd operation tomorrow – will be in hospital for 4 days. The will be, breaking my leg putting an external frame on to align the leg with a metal plate and rod down my leg from the knee. (the frame will be removed at the end of the Operation) Also taking some bone out my hip for bone grafting as my leg bone did not join up as it should have. Along with this releasing some tendons under my foot. Really not looking forward to it, as I’m not looking forward to the pain killers and not being able to walk again! Anyone here had bone taken out of there hip before? Wondering what the recovery will be like..
14 degrees! Christ Sam, just the thought of putting that right has got to be an incentive, surely. No experience I can offer as advice. I did have to have a leg break re-set, a fortnight into the healing process. Arsehole of a fracture clinic consultant wouldn't let the sister put me in a springy cast right after the accident, despite her arguing that the swelling was such that once it went down inside a normal cast, my ankle would rotate away from the fracture. It did. And once the first cast came off, the healing process had begun. The young doctor that inherited his boss's decision, put me in a wrestling hold while the new 'tight' cast set on the new position. It hurt...
Hope it's not too rough for you, Sam. The end result will be worth the faff on, I'm sure. There may be a few painful times along the way but having your leg right for the rest of your life will be worth it 10 times over.
I had bone out of my pelvis for my heal.. healing time was very quick for the pelvic scar, heal on the other hand was about 5 months. Good luck with the OP!
Thanks all.. Well got to hospital @ 5:30am. Was second on the list (10am)..but I got pushed to 4th..@ 1pm.. All was going well, I was put to sleep and then they said I vomited into my lungs..as I had a tube down my throat!! Decided not to operate!!! So in Icu, being monitored. Starving and just wana go home. From what I can tell, need to see the doc in 6 weeks, then 4+ months later another operation date.. So pissed off!
I bet dude, but a year after my off I'm still struggling, i think mine should have been operated on tbu..... When serious (as this is) the nhs really are a cut above and I honestly believe that despite the agg.... The long term results will be worth it. Hang in there, its a long road I'm sure but got to play long game in these instances
Thanks.. Just got home..planned allot around this opp..but will push everything forward now.. Just got a call, next booked date is 22nd December...recovery will be bang in the middle of the holidays...
