My mate has a tidy KTM XCF 350 which he is thinking of selling (to me). The model is a half way house between the Enduro and the Motocross models so will suit me and my needs. It hasn't been registered for road use but I believe it can be. My mate is the 2nd owner and has the original sales invoice. How big a job is it to get it road registered on a daytime MOT and what is the approx costs involved?
I ride and race motocross bikes. Wouldn't recommend using one of these on the road as they require an oil change every 6hrs or so. Also be aware that they are very prone to getting stolen.
I won't be riding it on the road as such but will be doing some green lanes both close to home and further away transported on the trailer and also keeping my son company on his motocross bike when I take him to the track. It is cheaper to insure when road registered too for some daft reason. My sons motocross bike costs more to insure for theft only than it does for me to insure my blade fully comp which is of similar value. I have beefed up the garage security too.
The Honda dealer who supplied my CRF250X in November applied for road registration on my behalf. Ok, they fitted a "road kit" which comprises a ignition with keys, poxy little rear light, brake light switches and indicators (the indicators I shall be removing in due course). I have just had a look at the paper work they supplied me and below is a list of the items they sent to Swansea along with a letter asking for registration: Ok this was for a brand new off road motorcycle that is now registered for road use but I can imagine you will need to provide the same or similar information Vin number V959 notification of name and address check V55/4 Certificate of newness First registration fee £55 Licence fee £38 Copy of sales invoice They also supplied the following information on a separate form called "Commercial Importation of a motor vehicle from outside the EU by a vat registered Trader. Make and model CC Chassis number year of manufacture Port of importation date of import Customs declaration Date of customs declaration Swansea then send me a number plate authorisation certificate along with a letter confirming that the application to register has been approved and the allocated registration number. The V5C then arrived a couple of days later. I wanted it road registered for the same reasons as you, I don't plan on huge road mileage just green lanes and the like. But as suggested you have to take care of the maintenance. I hope this helps.
Thanks, that helps and gives me an idea of the money and time involved in getting a plate on it. I bought my son a brand new CRF 150 and that has a similar maintenance schedule but I don't mind tinkering with bikes its working on cars that I hate with a passion these days.
