Today is my birthday and tomorrow me and four mates are booked in at donington Ron Haslem race school Premiere half day course so really looking forward to it. One mate has pulled out from a work back injury, so one space is going free,,well Still £269 if anyone wants to fill in otherwise they will hold his place for another day,,and I get one instructor to myself.
Happy Birthday, I'm planning on doing the same but tomorrow is too short notice for me. Would be great if you can write a summary of the day though.

Probably will do,,,i am liking the weather forecast as dry in the morning,,fingers crossed,,,i got my thermal underlayer ready,,8 degrees be fooked. May look at the Elite course for another day,,i cant wait to ride them 600s around there..not to even think what in the elite course it will be like with the fireblade. hope you have a brilliant time..see you tomorrow
Well what a brilliant morning, glorious sunshine , dry track , the Bridgestones were amazing, you could really push them on the fast corners, we started what felt quite quick and the instructor took us faster and faster,following him made it so much better than being on yourself, you could tell you tyres would hold.# He sure ended up taking us as fast as we dare, some parts were scary blurry fast , it got better as you trusted yourself, I never in my dreams thought we would be going so fast,,brilliant, them little 600s cbrs lived on the revs,amazing bikes, seemed very light, easy to ride. One group goes out while you have a briefing about the bends, braking points etc, the bikes come back in and you jump straight on and away, warm bikes and warm tyres,,you do three sessions of 20 minutes each on track, swapping with your riding mate half way through to follow the instructor. My instructor Steve Boast, has rode BSB, Sheffield speedway and road racer, he was amazing to follow,so smooth. My mate was with John Kirkham,BSB road race star. £300 quid, £ 269 if more than one books together, Premiere experience,,i will be doing this again,, so much of a learning experience,its great. Then the Elite course on fireblades is £400 less some discount,,already sold out until july. Oh ours was dry conditions but as we finished it started showers,hail ,, oh Dear,,how did our mate above get on?
Sounds like you had a blast - glad it stayed dry for you! We had hail, rain, snow, the works! Didn't stop it being brilliant though. Never been so fast in the rain! Instructor helped me enormously with throttle control and tying in a few things I'd been missing and he was happy that we were pushing it to slipping point and learning the bike. Encouraged me to spin the wheel up at times on the straights to get a feel for where traction was at. Ended up actually being glad the weather was so shitty as I think I learnt a whole lot more - if I'd been on my own I'm pretty sure I would have stacked it trying to get anywhere close to the speeds we were getting. Couldn't recommend it more - great day!
And this is why I run T30's on the road - if they can do all the above on a track there is not much more you need on the highway so to speak
Yep - great tyres. I run the S20 EVO on road and track and they're great. Tiny bit of slippage at rockingham on Sunday, but holding up brilliantly - almost as good as the pirelli supercorsa sp my mate was running but much better all round and would beat them hands down in the rain. Took T30 EVOs to Wales last summer and they were solid as a rock. Did 1500 miles before I sold the bike and no sign of wear.
I think the cbr 600s were on T30 or T30evo , very surprised how hard you can lean and turn in the dry.
Glad you had a good day. I did it in 2004, 600's in the morning and blades in the afternoon. I was totally knackered at the end of the day. I know some guys say to save money and do a track day and get free instruction, but who are you getting the instruction from? Some guy who makes the same mistakes as you but is a little bit faster? At least with RHRS you know you're getting instruction from people with a pedigree.
Well I have seen Dan Linfoot giving free instruction at No limit track day, maybe you have heard of him Although I reckon most are ex club racers? But still Free instruction and 7X 20 min sessions all for £105 bargin for sure
The operative word in my post was KNOW. Brilliant if you can rock up to a track day and get someone like Dan Linfoot to give you instruction, but what are the chances. A local guy used to regularly give instruction on track days but never raced in his life, that's not going to happen at RHRS
Don't get me wrong, it's pricey... And yes, you get more track time on a track day, and yes most organisers offer some kind of free instruction, but there are specific benefits, particularly to the elite course. Your instructor is there just for you - no one else is going to get any attention from them. The track is very empty. Half the time on the elite course we had it to ourselves, the rest of the time the premiere group is held to one side as you pass. Instructors deal with the overtaking and we almost never got held up. Timing is done for you on the elite course and you can drill down into your laps to see where you are going wrong. Information on throttle control, braking, gears, everything. This was invaluable as it helped find a fundamental flaw in my style. I was rolling off the throttle completely until the apex and then re-applying it mid corner when in fact you should be 'catching it' as you lean in to give you more control of the bike, mid-corner. This is the sort of thing that nobody would pick up on just watching you, but will help you become a smoother, safer rider. I wouldn't suggest that you'll gain great benefit from all the bells and whistles of the elite course unless you have more experience, but it's helped with some finer tuning in ways that no amount of other track riding would likely get me to. Add to it the benefit of being able to push a bike hard in the wet knowing that if the worst happens yours is tucked away safe in the garage and I think it's £400 very well spent!
