Yes I am aware of it, I have a copy, and she has it now. I did not need to read it when I quit, but I gave it to her to take with her. Her excuse at the moment is that she has enough reading to do, and I have to be carefull as I do not want to be seen as the hypocritic ex smoking Dad. The more I bang on about it the more she will dig her heels in, and at 25 she has to be allowed to make her own decisions

Indeed. There's no point preaching at people. Most of us dig our heels in when people start sniping at them.

I'm glad I read the book to quit because it's made the difference between being a reluctant ex-smoker and one who's completely happy to have quit and doesn't look over their shoulder and consider it a lifelong struggle to stay off them.

It makes me chuckle when I hear people say, "once a smoker, always a smoker". Not true. If they suddenly came out with non-dangerous cigarettes tomorrow I wouldn't start again because the reality is that you're living the life of a drug addict. Everything focussed around that next dose.

For my two pence worth. I gave up easy as pie when my ex wife became pregnant with my first son. I had no problems at all, I decided, and that was that. I didn't smoke again other than the odd cigar at black tie dinners until I got divorced, went to the Far East and thought "do you know what I fancy a cigar" they had non so I brought a packet of cigarettes and that as they say is history. I have smoked again ever since. Do I enjoy it, no not really, do my now grown up kids moan about it, absolutely every time I nip out for a smoke. I am in Malaysia at the moment and everyone smokes here and it costs pennies. Interestingly smoking is now banned in doors but everything is out doors or open so it's not a big problem if you want to smoke.
