I bought a sheet of black vinyl like you use for wrapping bodywork and cut the shape out to give me a boot guard. Simply heated and applied. Cost me a quid for an A4 piece of vinyl which will make many guards. Looks almost invisible on black swingarm and has been wearing remarkably well too.

What sort of heel guard is that on the swing arm mate? Both my heels are rubbing on the swing arm and need something that looks a bit better than the gaffa tape I've got on there now.

Thanks mate. Looks like I might just have to bite the bullet and buy the R&G kit.
