Hi folks. I'm looking for the benefit of the collective wisdom on here, again!

The next thing on my list for bike upgrades is to replace the standard brake hoses with braided lines. I'm assuming that HEL are the default ones to go for, so those are the ones I've been looking at.

The only thing I'm not sure of is which configuration to go for: one hose splitting via a t-piece into 2, one hose to one caliper and then another hose to the other, or 2 lines from the master cylinder with one hose to each caliper.

So, I was hoping you folks could give me a bit of help with the following questions:

    - Does one configuration offer a clear advantage over the others?

    - If I go with the OEM-style layout, can I use the existing clips?

    - If I go with 2 hoses from the master cylinder, can 2 hoses be mounted onto the OEM master cylinder? (I will eventually fit a brembo master cylinder, but I haven't yet)

    - Do the HEL kits come with clips? Even though the option might be there to re-use the OEM ones, mine are a bit tatty, so I wouldn't mind changing them out if some shiny ones come with the lines.

As always, many thanks in advance for any help/info - it's much appreciated.

I just installed HEL brake lines on my 08 blade. Go with the race style front lines. It is so much easier and better. Rather than letting everything go through a splitter. I did not use the existing clips on the front fender, but i used the stock clip at the triple tree. Yes, two lines will fit the stock master cylinder (you just get a longer banjo bolt to make it fit).

The hell kit does not come with any clips. You dont really need clips with braided lines, they are very sturdy and a simple ziptie will do the job.

Imo, the race lines i went with at the front looks better than over the front fender "style" like oem.

Mate, that's really helpful - thanks very much.

Think I'll go with the 2 separate front lines.

    No problem!

Found a few photos that i took. I also ditched the hugger stock mounting point when i installed the rear new line. Just seemed wierd to use it. The braided lines are much stiffer that the stock rubber and i didnt want to force the line. So at the back you get a bit of a loop, but i think it looks alright.

I can try to get a photo of the triple tree mount, so that you can see how i did that one.

And take a close look at the front lines you get from HEL, one of them are a bit longer than the other one. The longer line is going to the caliper on your clutch side.

And mate, your brakes are about to get much firmer! ;-)

Thanks again mate - those photos are helpful.

Yeah, I've heard that braided hoses make a big difference: hopefully these plus new pads and a fluid change will delay me spending money on calipers and master cylinder for a little while!

I too went for the twin line racing set up. Like thewiz says much easier and better. Altho my ocd wouldn't let me use zip ties so I ordered some stainless p clips instead. You should get a double banjo in the kit for the mastercylinder.

    Thanks for the pictures mate.

Can I ask where you got the p-clips from? Also, I'm assuming I'd want to get 7.5mm ones, to match the quoted OD of the hoses?

    Thanks in advance!
