    Hi Folks,

I’ve been away for a while, sold my 2007 Repsol Blade. I regretted this move from the day I sold it. Anyway I'm in the market again, and I'm after a little advice. I'm going to buy a 15/16 Blade SP My thinking is to keep it a long time. I have a mad dream that it may become a classic, I’m not thinking of the money side of things but It's a nice thought. My question is Abs or Non Abs. From the potential 'Classic' perspective what model is more likely to achieve the status. Thanks in advance.

    Mick.

I don't think it would make a massive difference. I personally would stay clear of the ABS models. Too many reported issues with Honda's system, plus the extra expense regarding servicing of the ABS.

Hi, Thanks for that, do you think Honda still have problems with this new system?

You might struggle to find a Non ABS 2015/2016 SP Blade - there aren't many around (most were ABS) - although I guess there might be some late registered Non ABS 2014s about.

I wouldn't have another Blade with the Honda Combined ABS System (I've now got a Non ABS).

Read up about the ABS (do a search on here). Remember its a 5 hour bleed procedure every 2 years (£400 ish at a Dealer).

I wouldn't count on an SP achieving 'classic' status any time soon.

I'd go non abs if you can find one!

I appreciate what you say about servicing ABS, that would pee me off no end, I'm not bad with the spanners, but it sounds a right mess on to do. Iv'e been out of the 'Blade Craic' for a couple of years and i'm surprized Honda with this new system have not sorted it, Or is it the old system re-vamped........ Just to be clear are we saying Honda are still having ABS 'back to the bar' issues with this new system?

What 'new' system? 2015/16 is the 'old' system. 2017 model has new Bosch system.

My mistake, I was told the system in 2014 had been changed and upgraded. If it's just the same one my mind is all but made up.
    Thanks,
    Mick.

If the 15/16 SP ever did become a classic it would surely be on the basis that it was the last analogue blade with no rider aids. With that in mind a non ABS would be the way to go if you are hoping for classic status. I'm not drawn either way whether it will be a classic or not, damn fine choice of bike though! Post pics when you find her.

Well that's my thinking, as I said I'm not going into this with 'Investment' tattooed on my brow but it's a nice thought that in a few years folk will think well of the analogue Blade. I'm getting older now and have ridden bikes that 'need riding' all my life right from old BSA's, Norton's etc to modern superbikes. I'm not criticising modern rider aids, there great, I rode a BMW recently with the amazing suspension, I loved it. I do think the ABS thing is a double edged sword it’s a great system and could save your life in an incident, (this one may kill you too haha) but for me it’s too high maintenance. It’s been nice to have a few other enthusiasts encourage me down a rout I am happy to travel on. Unless a revelation comes about with a definative 'Fix' ..... I’m on a perhaps difficult path to find a Repsol Non ABS low mileage immaculate Blade SP.

I don't think think there's any fix for the abs matey other than ripping it out which some folks on here have done .....I don't think you'll go far wrong with what you want, it's exactly the same as what I'll be looking for in a couple of years. I've seen the odd special paint job sp's occasionally & they've looked mint, just in case you wanted more options. Good luck with the search, I'll let you know if I hear of one :)

Yes I'd be happy to get a set of 'new clothes' for it but then you have to have wheels and its getting too much. I do think i'm up against it with my desire but i'll give it a try.... I'm attempting to like the Tri-colour but I'd always be looking at repsol and saying ''If only''

The 2014 onwards (RR-E) Standard Model Blade was updated at the same time as the SP was released. Engine is updated and is the same as the SP but not Blueprinted. It also has revised footpegs / bars (identical to SP). Other detail changes such as better key.

It might be worth considering a Non ABS standard bike? (if you can't find an Non ABS SP)

One of the guys on here bought this new one earlier this year....nice paint scheme....although looking at it there seem's to be the abs clutter on it...might be worth having a look who's got a new one on the forum & letting them know you're in the market if they're thinking of selling soon!

At the moment I'm not rushed but can move at any time, I took early retirement so I'm also able to travel, and look. (I've sold the interim bike I had Yesterday) So I'm sticking to my dream for now. Repsol, Immaculate, SP, Non ABS, Low Mileage. If I find I'm getting toward Autumn..... Well maybe the bikes will come out from the woodwork this winter.
