I had a Peugeot scoot many moons ago and loved riding it. Very reliable, cheap to run and cheap to ensure. I got a years free insurance with mine and the second year was something like £60.00. The modern versions have slightly more street cred than the older models, too.

Why does the Mrs want a bike? Hope it's not to go on ride outs with you as she will def cramp your style on the blade!

For god's sake don't make fun of that excuse mate. That's the one I use when Jeanette nags me about getting rid of the 550.

lol, no. she is a care worker and it would be financially sound for her to 'scoot' round to see her patients and feed them/put them to bed/give medication etc as the wages are crap and the fuel allowance ratio to mileage is a bloody joke.

Christ, she definitely needs a FireBlade then mate. I'd need something to put a smile on my face between visits in her vocation.

in gods honest truth, i was just searching to get cost ideas for a scoot fer the missus. she's just this minute walked in and i've told her all the pitfalls of scooters and all the BENEFITS of a geared bike. Now all i have to do is decide weather she wants a DT, KMX, .............

Dont touch the kmx 125 with a bargepole! Honestly the worst bike i have ever ridden for reliability. (mine was a full power 33bhp one with power valves though)

Yam DT125's are much better im my personal opinion. But what about a little 4 stroke? much more reliable that nay 2 blower.

If she is not going to ride much i would be tempted to buy one of those chineese fake hondas. Get a brand new one for under £1000

Other than the house, the holidays, the Sundays spent with the outlaws (when you could be out on the bike), the meals out, the nagging.........or is that just my life?

I'm lucky, I suppose. My outlaws are a cross between the Addams family and the Manson family so I can sort of run the bike on the promise of not constantly bitching about them being forever on the scrounge, on the need or just generally whining about how hard their lot is, and when it does kick off and Jeanette knows that I'm going to be less than understanding about her getting dragged into the pantomime, she generally just says 'leave this to me, why don't you go out for a ride'.

    Works for me.

So has she decided she wants a geared bike now rather than twist n go?

I started riding on a little Kawasaki kh100. Was a brilliant little thing, day I passed my test I sold it for £200 more than i paid for it! The woman who bought it was going to go and buy a new one for just over a grand just to pass her test on, but when I said I was selling mine, she jumped at it and bought it.
