All, desperately in need of some inspiration. My fireblade is ill!! Last rode out 5 weeks ago. No issues. Went to start yesterday and she won't fire up. Engine runs for 30seconds then dies. Battery charged up to full (as I drained it trying to get it going).. Still no joy. Lifted tank up to start looking... and the bike started (a bit rough but sorted itself out after a moment or two). Revs right up with no issues. Put it back together, and it ran fine for 30 seconds, then died again. Lifted tank and after a few starts, runs fine. Noting kinked, jammed or broken when I put the tank back down so I'm confused as heck..
sounds like the fuel line is being kinked when the tank is being lowered which will prevent fuel getting to the throttle bodies and stalling the bike.
I thought as much at first, but genuinly cant see anything geting pinched and kinked... Ive now got it started when everything is back together and what I do notice (if it's any help) is that it's idle speed fluctuates quite a bit, almost to the point of stalling, it will stablise after a while, but very bouncy at first. This seems worse when I ram the throttle on and let it return back to idle..
Do you have an aftermarket exhaust installed? Has the airbox been off the bike? Check that its on correctly and there is no air gaps and all the relevant hoses are correct and present.
Nope, its a standard exhaust (odd I know!) Airbox has not been removed. Bike was fine up into lying dormant for the last couple of weeks.... So pi££ed off. Was thicking an ECU reset, but buggered if i can find the procedure....
Ecu reset is starting the bike and letting it idle until both fans kick in with out revving it at all Am sure someone will correct if it's wrong
You need to disconnect the battery first for about 10 minutes. Then reconnect & do as you've mentioned & when fans kick in, turn it off
Cheers. Carried out as instructed. Idle still bouncy as hell, but got the bike to run late last night. Took it out for a local spin. It's quite happy at anything below 6000 rpm, but doesn't want to get over that threshold no matter what gear, engine just stops accelerating past it and bike physically holds back... sounds like half the cylinders aren't firing at that rpm.
Stick my oar in here for what it is worth. Have you done a full check of the charging system? Genny, RR, earths, etc
It's an 08 plate blade.. Plugs look fine, last changed 30milea ago. Charging system checks out ok, battery was replaced back in March with a decent MotoBatt. I thought pump too, maybe worth changing as a matter of course. Managed to get it to work this morning. Only firing on half the cylinders for the first 30 seconds, then off it went... Its bugging the hell out of me as I've lost confidence in it.
Check the ground wire is rust/corrosion free and securely fastened. Then check there is no air leaks or missing pipes around the air box and ensure the airbox is securely fixed to the throttle bodies with no leaks.
Cheers. Will have a look at it it on the weekend and get back to you. I've taken it out a couple of times during the week. Problematic as hell until it warms up, then runs like a dream. Will pull the plugs again and then make sure everything is fitted tight.
Haven't seen Sharpe1066 on here in months. The post you read was Aug 2017. He's either sorted it or is still checking the plugs . . .
