Normal bikes are weird (after a Blade !)

It seems a bit like this.

With the Fireblade it is natural to be leaning forward 'cause it is a sportsbike, but if I wanted to get a move on and hussle it through the corners - I would lean further forward and lower - to lower the centre of gravity and put some weight on the front wheel to help the tyre do its job. And maybe slide off the seat a little to do the business.

Now with this upright roadbike, with higher wider bars I found myself coming out of the corners a bit wide, and I have sussed the problem.

On this bike If I lean forward when getting a move on through the corners you end up with these wide handlebars much closer to you - and then you do not have the leverage to give a bit of counter steering because the bars are right up under your chest - and so the lack of movement means going wide on the exit of a tight corner.

So no, or not much, leaning forward it seems - which is weird. But it seems ok to slide off the seat a bit.

I can make the thing go round a corner - but not yet like that Fireblade. You could tip the Fireblade in and it could stay where it was put without any further inputs - if the corner was symmetrical, the Fireblade could carry on round the corner beautifully balanced without any further inputs - ' kin great.

This GSX-S is taking a bit of getting used to, and the jerky throttle is not helping. So I have been going up and down our local Hill Climb hill, so as to be on a constant open throttle all the way up ('cause its a steep hill) and off the throttle on the way down - just to get the balance of the thing on the tight corners - that is all fine now.

But the throttle - I will be taking the bike to JHS Racing to have a Power Commander fitted, and dynod with a map at the same time. Hopefully that will cure the throttle input sensitivity. It might never corner like the Fireblade but I am sure it can be improved. :)

Just out of interest how much do you think you’re going to put into this bike to get it to where you want to be? if it’s going to be a couple of grand on top of the list price it’s then not as much of a bargain if you see what I mean.
Not slagging the bike I hope you understand, the can looks good, it’s probably the best one I’ve seen in the white colour.

IMHO - I reckon on the following:

    Must Haves:
    • Power Commander & set up - £350 + £179 map + £40 install = £569
    • Yoshimura R-11 - £650
    TOTAL : £1,219

The Power Commander, or similar, is a must. I think a lot of these Euro 4 bikes suffer with these fuelling issues, so that is probably what I have to factor in - even if I had bought an MT-10 or something else. Back in the day you would put a Micron pipe on your bike as a matter of course - maybe now it is a Power Commander or something similar. So long as it works I will be happy.

The Yoshimura pipe - the standard stubby is very raucous sounding and I did not really like it - not how loud it was - it just sounded a bit brutish and there was no getting away from it. The Yoshimura sounds nicer - and I am sure it has helped the fuelling a bit as well.

    Optional:
    • Rear Shock such as Nitron - £438
    • Tyres - £300
    • Sintered Brake Pads - £60
    TOTAL : £798

The rear shock is OK for the most part, although I can tell that it is not as planted as the Firebalde was.

The standard Dunlops are OK, soft and grippy - I am sure they will not last that long, but they are fine for now so will probably wear them out.
Brakes were a bit soft, to be expected on a new bike. But they seemed to always require 4 fingers - so put in EBC Sintered pads which has helped - but they can be quite grippy at car park and stop line speeds as well - and can make you look like an amateur if you are not careful !!

It is maybe a bit of a poor-man's Tuono, but it is not going to take that much to sort out - then you will have a bike that can give most things a run for their money - just fingers crossed that the Power Commander sorts the fuelling.

Booked in to JHS Racing next week, to have the PC 5 done - then we shall see.

Sounds like a plan, soooo looking at roughly £12k to get it up to spec, sort of fits in with the rest of the bikes in that price bracket.
The trouble is the manufacturer has to essentially make a bike for all markets then fiddle with it to suit each individual market and regs.
It stands to reason that the electronics are a bit of a mush-mash as standard as well, hopefully the PC will be more suited to your needs :)

Matt, what do u find on the fueling side of things? I've got the rsv4 with euro 4 and below 4-5000 rpm it's awful and with the gearing you end up in low rpm. I'm told end can and ecu unlock its loads better, I've got them ready to be fitted on 1st service

Jay - around the 3,000 revs the bike stutters, like it is in the wrong gear, but it is the fuelling. You cannot stay in there, you have to go above or below. It is also noticeable as you slow down - if you slow down and arrive at 3,000 revs it lurches forwards a few times in protest !

I am sure your bike will be sorted - it is just this Euro 4 stuff. Get it mapped or power commander and job done. It's the way it is.

Thanks - I think I need to register to view your link.

Just wondering - What do you think is the best bike at the moment ? or maybe bike that you would like to have ?

Instead of the H2 carbon, maybe wait until the new Ducati V4 ?

My Gixes should be in this week for the Power Commander and map.

I know I liked that one as well ! not my original though

Had to have something better than GSXSSSXSXXSXXX-F !! it was doing my head !

The other good one was Gixxer F.

I would still like a Hayabusa, especially that one with the Yoshi pipes. They are still trying to sell my 2015 Blade with 18,000 on the clock for 7,995 still there I see.

Off to catch the ferry. See ya.

Yeah it was the Z I was interested in, my 15 plate has 7500 miles so I was expecting a bit more tbh, I wonder what I’d be offered against a new Blade.
