I was hoping to get out today, but still frost on the road, so it's gonna be a rideless day again. But soon it will be spring...well it's not that far off :)

The thing about living on the estuary is that it's like a funnel. The winds blowing against my house so hard that I can climb up the wall like Spiderman at the moment.

I know what you mean Blaggers, I get really moody when I can't ride, it is so frustrating, especially if I watch any bike sport.....it just makes me want to ride more, especially when it is road racing.

summer's the worse time ever when ya 'bikeless'. nowt to do so go sit outside pub having a few jars, then all of a sudden the old ears prick up, can hear gixers, blades, dukes etc. then a bunch of selfish bastards roll up to the lights, all dressed like power rangers, probably grinning ear to ear, being alive, having a great time.....bastards.

All thinking 'wish I had a piss before I put these skintight leathers on' or 'f**k me it's cold, I can't feel my fingers/toes/goolies' or 'I wish I could stretch the cramp out my right leg' or 'look at that grinning bastard in the beer garden over there enjoying a pint with hardly no chance of getting pulled and breathered on the way home in his eurobox just for driving a bit noisy through Piecrust Parva.

You know, you guys are all right, it's crap when the weather is half decent and you have no bike to ride, it's crap when it's freezing, there's salt on the road or it's wet and slippery and it's crap when it's bloody freezing and you're sat at traffic lights trying to quickly get some sort of feeling back Into your fingers.

All we have to do is wait a few more weeks and the weather should start to change for the better and then all that crappy waiting will be over and we can all go out, have fun and ride!! I for one can't wait, the only good thing about winter is I get all the cruddy jobs done that I keep putting off when it's warm cos I want to go out and ride. Lol

yea, and it's crap when it's too warm and ya filtering through traffic in a town / city where all the lights are programmed to be red one after the other so ya cant make progress and get some air flowing cos ya sweating like a black man on a rape charge....

bollox, it seems biking is just CRAP!!:(

I'd rather be riding when it is safe to do so.Not that my arse isn't sensitive enough it's the unfortunate things that can go wrong like ice patches, salt patches people pulling out not giving you enough time to brake etc etc.All my bike smashes have been during the winter months some 20-30 years ago. After that long spell away from bikes it's got frightenly worse. So I always look at the scars (one on hand and one on knee)from those days to remind me of what could happen in these wintery months. The urge is there but is it worth the aggro of a smashed bike,:mad: smashed body and all that cleaning to do. Whilst driving the missus is starting to say "thats a working bike" and when I look I agree with her. Some bikes I've seen have been absolutely mullered either rusty, filthy or bits broken and hanging off. I'll keep the blade warm and cosy till spring NOT LONG NOW.

Not to easy Blaggs its the same for us all 7hrs or 7 years its the same deal what you have got to come though is the working all day with great weather talking to your mates about the later ride of your life getting home scoffing a butty only to look outside and its started to rain .(Won't bother me i here you say) and you are nearly right except that the bends or roundabouts you have been dreaming of all day now become rainbow coloured and then the dream is over.

To reaffirm the winter riding issue - I rode to work on friday afternoon, bright, sunny and dry. Rode home Friday night -5, roads covered in salt (totally unexpected by me it seems) and the air was damp so it stuck to everything. Got home resembling an ageing Hollywood star with that permanent distorted impression on my face due to the cold. When I put the bike in the garage I noticed it was covered in salt - literally. I had no idea how bad it was due to the darkness outside. Wheeled the bike outside, unwound the frozen hosepipe and spent the next 10 mins rinsing the bike down. Consequently I spent all my spare time sat and today cleaning and oiling the thing until all traces of salt had gone.

Probably not a major issue for some, but with my bike only a month old and a prenuptial agreement promising I'd never take her out in salty road conditions I feel as if I've mistreated her.

Moral of the story - If you're a sissy with your bike (as I am) check the forecast to include the return journey and not just the outward bound leg.

Bike now tucked away safely for the remainder of the winter. ROLL ON SPRING!

Lucky you rinsed it down as now it would be a pile of trash!! Its not about being a sissy ,you are trying to protect your investment, mine has been used around xmas prior to the salt but come the rains and with some luck it won't freeze over there may be a chance to get out and as my bike is coated with silicone it would last a ride out without any stress and then once home massive amounts of cold water followed by Muc off and dry (leaf blower) and another coating of silicone. Then dream of the next time.
