I tried to sell my Blade just before Christmas but had no takers, probably due to the time of year. I have a 2005 with 24k on the clock fairly standard, some mods (stomp grip, crash bungs, after market full Micron system, braided lines, double bubble) nothing radical. Dealer serviced up to 17k in what I would describe as overall good condition, tyres, pad's, filters and oil all good. I am looking for a Daytona 675, and have found one (private not trade) the guy is willing to do a px. He wants my bike plus £1000, the Daytona is 2009 and priced at £4250 has 15k, aftermarket pipe, remapped, quickshifter, comfort seat. Good history etc. We live about 95 miles apart and he's willing to deliver/collect. Is this a good deal? or is my Blade worth more. Cheers in advance

As an indicator compare like for like on EBay to see how they look price wise. After a quick shufty they don't look a grand apart in price to me, but you'll be able to make a better comparison.

Then I suppose there's a couple of things, can you negotiate him down and how badly do you want the swap?

He's effectively valuing your bike at 3250, which is a tad low. Market puts it at 3500 - 4500. A good reference is this, but obviously doesn't take into account your mods and condition: https://www.thebikemarket.co.uk/honda/cbr/cbr1000rr-fireblade/2004-2005

Sometimes we have to bite the bullet and think of the end objective (the Daytona) rather than taking a loss of a few quid. Probably an idealistic point of view, but one which ensures we get what we want. All the best with it!!;)

We always under price part ex when selling as it means if you get stuck with it it's easier to shift and still break even on. Have you priced it on we buy any bike? Maybe compare the 2 and work from there. His main reason will be hey doesn't really want your bike so just chancing that you want his

I'd sell it privately then it opens up more doors for You, this guy probably doesn't want your bike (if he did he'd do a straight swap) so there's got to be something in it for him. Same as if you traded it in with a dealer you're looking at a grand less than market value, that's what he'll be thinking.

I haven't looked but taking what DF said about them being similar priced, I'd go with that and try and sell yours privately again and get your best price.:)

The only catch with that, as you'd be aware, is that we run the risk of missing out on the very bike we want. Sure, there might be many more, but sometimes we must seize the opportunity when it arises.

I am not very good with words and making comparisons, but I see it as ditching a half-alright wife and copping a financial loss when a much better opportunity smiles on the horizon.:)

OK so let's say that the Triumph is at a dealers, it's the one you really really want and they're saying it's a grand to PX.........what do you do?? You go for it of course!

This is a similar scenario except it's a private deal.....the guy wants a grand to PX.......what do you do?? You stump up a grand or you walk away!

Job done......it's not really about what your bike is worth, it's about what the other person thinks it's worth......you'll only get a good price for it if you sell it privately :)

Thanks for your views guys. I've decided if the Daytona checks out and is not in need of anything I'll go for it. I did sell some aftermarket bit's off the Blade that were fitted when I bought it, and the previous owner had given me the original parts. So I made about £450 from them, which if he's putting a value of £3250 on my bike, put's it up to a more realistic £3700. Plus the Daytona has some goodies that I won't have to buy.
    Thanks again guys.

Do I get banned if I don't have a Blade?:(

Dunno. I bought an MV, but covered my butt by keeping the Blade!! I liken it to multi-tasking.:)

Can't afford to keep the Blade as well, does keeping the Haynes manual count?:)
