Have been looking around at blades ‘10 onwards, and a good ABS one came up, read the posts on here, lifesaver... 6 hour services, 17 page manuals on bleeding, brake fade etc and back in 2010 I thought taking the rear pegs off was hard :D
Thank you to the forum. Updated the search now and will stuck with non ABS as I had before. Or possibly go with Bosch ABS. Never ridden an ABS model and do occasionally do something stupid :D so it’s on the list to consider. What year did Bosch ABS come out with Honda?

It's only the new Blades 2017 onwards that have the Bosch...everything before that has the dreaded Honda abs, and I speak from experience having it, & spending a fortune getting it bled over the last 4 yrs :(

Thankyou. Don’t think I’m willing to spend over 10k anymore as fun value doesn’t increase enough :D
Normal model it is then, just need to remember how to ride :D :D

I don't think you'll miss ABS. Having ridden a current model for only 100 miles, I can easily say that I feel no difference between ABS (Bosch) and my 2011 non-ABS. Truth is that it would only be noticeable during 'crisis time' but for normal, average riding, I don't think there's any advantage. (This could create an avalanche or replies, but this is just my impression).

Pmsl yeah well I’ve had a few crisis moments :D Over the years, but unless I’m willing to shell out for a new model I’m quite happy with non-ABS one I think. Just got to find one I’m happy with now

Don't mention it.....let him find out for himself. Nobody likes the bearer of bad news.

That did occur to me as I didn't want to ruin his day at Donington, but I can't not tell him.

It might not ruin his day? Plenty of folk never have issues. Also dont most people experience issues at low speed whilst filtering for example?

    Can happen at any speed.
My last full bleed ( after usual fail issues) was done by Honda 9 months ago & I've done 4800 miles with no issues. Then on Friday it failed as I pulled up at traffic lights after about 6 miles slow riding in city traffic. Then on Sunday it failed again twice in quick succession braking hard down from 70mph...no filtering or slow riding involved. So it's going to have to go in again.
The guy at least needs to know what to expect & do if his lever comes back etc so he's not taken by surprise.

Your bike is out of warranty now Lozzy. How much does it cost you for a brake bleed?

I didn't know about the issues when I bought my 11 plate. I'd had abs bikes before with no problems so never really gave it a thought. I saw on its paperwork from the previous owner that it had a warn for a 5-3 code but was told by dealer that the issue was sorted.
It wasn't until I'd had it a little while that it first failed coming off a bypass at 70 & I braked hard for a junction...nearly pooped me pants! Searched on this forum & that's when I found all the threads on it.

It's about £300 if Honda do it. Which if it lasted the 12k or 2 yrs between bleeds I could live with but like I say it's playing up again after only 5k. Might be the front senser though...god knows!

You know I've followed these ABS threads since joining and it certainly appears that you have had more of a 'raw deal' than most. I am actually disappointed in Honda (despite my love for the brand) for not resolving this issue once and for all.

Possibly it seems to crop up more because of the mileage I do?!?
I guess with this last gap of about 5k, that if you were a 2k or less a year rider...which a lot are, and only kept it a couple of years, then you wouldn't notice the issue and be in the 'haven't had a problem' catagory.
Can you imagine the cost, and issue of how to solve it, if Honda admitted a problem with an expensive system that's in what must be thousands of bikes produced.

I wonder if Honda realise that people are not buying Honda bikes or cars because of the way Honda (mis)handled this? I'm sure Honda don't really care if a few people go to other bike manufacturers, but Honda should worry about what people are told when they ask why that person swapped to another manufacturer.

Agree....and probably explains why decent second hand non abs are a bit like rocking horse shit too.
