    Long story but I've now got a guy's Kwak Z1000 in the garage stored for him until the weekend, after it was nicked.

    He was visiting his 85 year old mum who's seriously ill in hospital when some scum nicked his bike. Fortunately an off duty copper saw them tow it past his window (kid on a scooter holding the handle bars with one sitting on the seat) and reported it. They dumped it in the woods opposite my house, lent it up against a tree. It looks like it's not damaged other than they've ripped the cable out of the ignition barrel to try and get it started, but obviously failed.

    This is what we've got;

    I'm useless at this stuff, but when the guy touched a couple of the wires together we got power, clocks illuminated and the starter will go, but it just won't fire. There's no immobiliser on there. Any ideas?

    He's left it in my garage until the weekend but he's not overly local and hasn't got any recovery. So we'd like to try and get it started to at least let him get it home.

    The wires would have been pulled out of a plug. If you locate that you should be able to reconnect them. It just means fiddling around to get access to the bottom of the barrel. Normally I’m going past midlands so could of poped round and tried to help out but I’m staying down south so sorry I’m not much use

    You could search online for the year model and I’m sure you will find an image of the barrel or wiring diagram

    Probably better off replacing the switch as some have a voltage drop diode in the switch to stop them simply been hotwired. Found this out when my mate snapped of his key in fuel lock on his 99fireblade miles from home and we tried to bridge the switch to get him home. If we sent 12 volts on the ecu trigger it stopped it starting but would turn over. Send about 8 volts to it and fired straight up. Clever way of stopping them been hotwired. Switch replacement if it can't be rewired is best bet.

    I'm wondering if @Bikeboy might be able to help with this! He works around the Midlands and 'might' have the expertise.
