i learnt from their stand at and NEC that BF aren't going to offer any discounts to motorcyclists on their sailings to Santander, because they don't need to. You can still get a discount on their holiday packages but not sailings only. Bummer. Looks like Chunnel next year.
The guy at the bike show said there wasn't any discount for the bikes next year was because they didn't need to offer them. I think he was right because the ferry I went on last May to Santander, the bike space allocation was totally sold out. Probably why we had to be packed in like sardines. But, I wonder how many will just chose the tunnel instead. After all £800 for two peeps, and two bikes isn't over cheap. Fingers crossed that they don't get the sales and have to offer a discount. Otherwise it's the tunnel for me, and a ride down France
I've booked for end of August and 1st week of September. Outside cabin each way and return on the expensive one that docks at Portsmouth 7.30pm Sunday. Cost me £600, but it'll be an adventure - been to the Alps last 6 trips, never ridden in Spain other than a moped (whilst drunk) in 1990. This time I am doing the Ride magazine route tour of Spain - across the Pyrenees to the top right, down to the Sierra Nevada in the bottom right, across to the bottom left then up to the Picos in the top left. Booked all the hotels already too. Squashing the Ride 13 day route into 10 days. Now for the controversial bit - going on my Kawasaki Z1000SX and leaving 'blade at home. Blade is much nicer to ride, but the SX has lockable paniers and slightly more comfortable for the long days of riding (although I've done 700 miles in a day on the 'blade before now, my knees have started to get "elderly"...).
Great to see you've got something booked. However, I prefer to travel without any accommodation booked, just a small plan of where I'd like to go. Once you start booking accommodation you have to meet deadlines. At that time of year you won't have a problem getting hotels, B&B etc.
I've booked them all with free cancellation until the last minute, so this way I can be flexible too, but also reserve decent places whilst the choice is there. On past experience, it can be really tricky trying to find accommodation on the day sometimes - once in Germany heading for the Harz mountains I only sorted my hotel at 9pm - couldn't seem to get internet on phone in most places that day so it was a real stress. In Spain I'll be on the bike at least 8 hours most days, so it's one thing not to have to worry about.
