190/50 or 55 profile

    Whilst we are on about tyres,what do you guys think to the Bridgestone bt023,or is there better?

    I can only find 190/55/17 75W through Tyreleader. Is this the correct size if I want a 190/55/17 for my 06 Blade. Still unsure as I've heard the 190/55/17 can be worse on straights and in bad conditions and I want to use my bike all year round

    GET A 55 !!! ...

    I'll tell you why .. as a 50 wears if you ride any amount of distance a tyre will tend to square .. ones worth having even .. PR4's and 3's will square eventually .. I am learning the hardware .. the steering becomes over stable when a 50 profile tyre starts to wear ... seriously .. there just aren't enough bends

    Wish i hadnt put the 55 on my 18 blade. It slows down 1st and second enough to piss me off.

    You not seen the more recent thread on this subject? Putting a 55 profile tyre on pre '17 models is a good upgrade from a 50 profile, I did it myself on my rr9. But on the newer models it can cause problems with the software and throw up an error on the dash, as can changing the sprocket size. It seems there is a bunch of us '17 '18 model owners who have now been put off making any of changes/upgrades until Honda offer an ECU upgrade to allow this. Which doesn't look like it'll happen any time soon. I'll be sticking with standard everything for now!:rolleyes:

    When you say it slows down 1st and 2nd, what exactly do you mean? o_O

    I assume he means the change in effective gearing? Although it should only be 3% as that’s the difference in rolling circumference.

    So that means if you're doing 100 mph (on track of course) you suffer a loss of 3 mph to mean you're really doing only 97 mph?

    I'd be friggin' devastated!!:D;)

    No - other way round! Speedo reads slower with a 55 on. So an indicated 97mph means you’re going the same speed as the guy next to you with a 50 tyre whose speedo says 100mph.
    Although due to speedo over reading both of you are only actually doing 95mph :D

    Frustrating when your goal is to see how fast the bike goes of course, and like a dick you’ve not taped your speedo up ;)

    Huh? I know I can be senseless, but isn't that what I've said?: I'm doing 100 so I lose 3 mph which equals 97.

    The tyre circumference is larger which means it takes longer to rotate which means it covers fewer miles per rotation.

    Agreed on the physics. I think I just misunderstood whether you were referring to actual or indicated as the 97 :)

    I changed to a 55 many years ago after I needed a quick one to get through an MOT. Wow, what a difference. I immediately went out and purchased na brand new one and have been running 55s ever since. So much more agile and turns in quicker.
    I'm regularly getting angles of about 59degs on the right corners.

    Alan, what is the actual fault your getting? I presume your not bothered about indicated speeds?
