Hi, I am going on my first motorcycle trip abroad early next month.
We are going from Hull to Zeebrugge on North Sea Ferries. We are staying in Ghent and using it as a base, for 4 days in total.
Basically, are there any do's and don'ts?
Do I need to tell my insurance company etc?
    Thanks.

I done that crossing a few years back when going to Assen, great trip!

As far as the ferry crossing goes only advice I’d give is learn the tie a decent knot as you’ll need to make sure your bike is secure before you leave it and head upstairs, from memory the deck hands give you rope to tie it down to cables that run along the deck.

    Be a great trip! Enjoy

They provide ratchet straps on the ferry now (used to be ropes) - so much easier.

It's worth checking with your Insurance. Some have different rules - e.g. you are only covered 3rd party abroad unless you notify them of the trip etc.

Make sure you have Euro breakdown recovery.

    Keep right!

Don't forget to take spare ignition key, most items can be bought if you loose them, but lost ignition key that's a nightmare.

Just enjoy yourself, and obey the law (i'm not preaching but if you watch 44 teeth on Youtube they got done big time in Switzerland for speeding) I went to Belgium 2 years ago and loved every minute of it.

I remember Belgium, on the way up to Assen TT.

One time I stopped in the Ardennes region, pulled to the side of the road for a quick wazz among the trees - all forests and quite wild feeling place. As I was standing there next to a tree having a wazz something moved and caught my eye - a small deer was feeding in the grass, in a small sun-lit clearing in the trees, and when it put its head up I saw it.

I liked the Ardennes, although on a bike you can pass through it really quickly. A wild place.

Take some pictures to show us !! look forward to hearing how it went.
