Anyone had any experience with matt painted fairings? I'm thinking of changing up my fairings and have been looking at monster fairings website, they sell a matt black set which I really like the look of, but is the matt effect hard to keep clean, once there's a scratch or a stone chip are they pretty much done for, etc.....?

    Pic for attention.:p

You could wait for @PauloHRC to reply, but he didn't have his on long enough to even collect insects before buying his SP!!

Couple of guys on here with matte black 2017 - 18s, but haven't heard from them for a while:(

Hi, I own a MY17 Fireblade in Matt Black. It looks the business (I think so) and I get no end of comments when parked up or even at lights.

Had it a few months now and I've not had to do anything special compared to previous blades I've owned. I wash my bikes with baby wash (ph neutral) and warm water.

Its the same with any bike paint scheme of one colour - any chip is going to stand out. I had a pearlescent white FB and that got chip in the front fairing (nose cone) and that stood out.

The only thing you can consider is protecting it with something like venture shield or other equivalent products.

I had a set of matte black fairings on my last bike, an RR9. I had no issues with them, cleaned up really easily with a bit of fairy liquid and just dried off almost immediately on it's own without leaving so much as a smear.

I ended up with one or two marks on mine after the install, but I just touched them up with some black spray paint (satin) applied with a small art brush. Was almost invisible repair.

Got mine on eBay £240 plus customs which worked out less than £40.

You can buy matte ppf which would give you the effect you want while protecting the paint.
    Might be worth a look?
These were from a company called auctmarts, fitted really well and found them easier to lean than gloss paint but the stone chips showed the white primer underneath

Cheers for all this guys, it's helped me decide that I definitely want to go down the matt black route. I'll shop around regarding fairings. Although monster fairings website looks the bizz I can't help but feel it's Chinese fairings but sold at a higher price due to their 'branding'.

I have OEM matte fairings on mine, so cant comment on the Chinese fairings, but you need to avoid any shampoo that has any fork of wax in them like Carnuba. Auto Glum Pure is what I use and it works fantastic

@PauloHRC the Chinese fairings you got, what was the craic with the seat cowl that comes with it? Did it open and close like a standard one? Only because I do actually use the generous sized boot space provided.

Yeah you get a seat cowl identical to the original with a rubber pad included too. Just have to glue it in place! Opens and closes perfectly......or mine did!
