It's new tyre time as my rear is almost at the TWI and apparently the edges I saved won't work on their own

I was going to get fit m7rr but the fitter has offered a pair of s21s for £50 less. Is there anyone who has used both and could offer a comparison from a road use perspective.

It's unlikely they will ever see a track and so I mainly want something that offers decent grip, warms up quickly, copes with British weather, and be reasonably hard wearing.

I’m thinking of getting the M7RR fitted to the blade - never had them before but the blokes at FWR recommended and they’re doing £30 off metzeler at the mo. Other option I was looking at were Michelin Power RS which get a good write up.
I shall get my popcorn and lurk, watching the replies!

Just to throw an alternative in the mix mate, I have the road 5’s at the moment and amazed at how good they are.
had the rear on since November and it’s not squared off yet with just over 4 k on it.

Dunlop q3 plus set is 308 in the us before the 40 dollar rebate on the 190/55 set. Love the q3 and the plus is supposed to get about 20 percent more mileage. I wouldn't ride anything else besides a supercorsa but they are way more pricey.

S21's were good as well but better mileage could be expected from the evo version I think.

I’m running supercorsas at the mo and they’re horrendous in the wet and/or cold, not at all confidence inspiring- just don’t need them for the UK road riding I do. I’m sure they’re great for a warm and dry track but I need something that can deal with UK weather! Haha

M7RR is a great tyre for the road and confidence inspiring in the wet. I feel the same about supercorsa's but its what came with my bike...... When I change I'd definitely look at getting Metzeler again! :)

M7RR is good on sweeping long bend but nowhere near as consistent as S21 on trail brake and hard braking on real corners. S21 last longer and also much more predictable under braking which suits my riding style. There are also S22 now which is only a tenner more expensive but it certainly feels like it has more grip and slightly better than S21. (tried on my mate's 12 blade)

Also S21 warms up much quicker and more comfortable on bumpy roads.

It just my opinion based on the experience of them on my 17 blade, and to be honest when I change from S21 to M7rr I was a bit disappointed. My advice is just to try it out for yourself and be happy with your choice instead of comparing them which I think lead to most of the disappointment I had.

Never had any issues with the S21 on my old Blade. Took them to the Isle of Man, in the heavy rain that year ! - I remember them as a good all round tyre for road use - stop start rain or shine, never ran out of grip - just a bit nondescript really, but quite happy to keep them on the bike until the end.

The M7RR, twice in the winter had the back end slip out a bit when pulling out of a garage back into the traffic - admittedly it was in cooler winter temperatures, and the tyres were not really warm and the tarmac was smooth - no biggie really though.

Also took the bike to the twisties in South of France, on the same tyres, and that was a blast. They turn in nicely - really good tyres. But for me just not sure they are the best for everyday year-round ride to the shops kind of tyre - sold them actually to a mate, still with some mileage left on them and bought the Metzeler Roadtec 01 as a bit more suitable for my everyday year-round use.

Going to give the new Dunlop SportSmart Mk3 a go this year, for the trip to the TT.

    Quick edit:
The other thing noticed about the M7RR (in everyday ride to the shops kind of use) was that it seemed harder to balance the bike - in those 00 mph balance the bike without dabbing your foot situations in traffic. We can all do that, but for some reason it seemed more effort with the M7RR.

Put the Metzeler Roadtect 01 on and the bike seemed it would stand upright all day at 00 mph in traffic without dabbing my foot. Very noticeably harder (but not impossible0 to keep the bike upright at 00 mph in traffic with the M7RR. That is what I mean about ride to the shops kind of tyre !

Thanks for all the input. After mainly being a Bridgestone user I have decided to scratch the Metzler itch.

BSS, fyi the £30-off promotion is valid if you buy a set of metzeler tyres, fitted from your dealer. Think it runs until end of June. Apparently you get a cheque for £30 in the post which is nice!

Also I took loose wheels in and they put it on the invoice as “fitted to the bike” at no extra cost, so I could get my £30 off. Just need a nod and a wink ;)

Cheers, will see what I can do as not sure the fitter is an official Metzler dealer.

Metzler are part of the Pirelli Group, not Bridgestone.

Actually, they tend to feel a bit firmer, and have a stiffer carcase than a Metzler/Pirelli.
