OK, I'm just curious as to why some peeps remove the fairings and other parts and put them in storage. Then fit cheapo chinese parts. Why? To me it's a bit like folk that leave the plastic bags on seats of new cars. The whole point of buying new is to get a new bike. Then, when you come to sell it you put back on brand new fairings or let the new owner have brand new parts. OK, you might drop it and it's better to damage chinese fairings than OEM. I don't get it. But everyone to their own I suppose
He might have, but he needs a further guiding hand because his basis of thought is flawed. There's very few who are putting Chinese on 'new' bikes. Most of the interest has focused on 'refreshing' bikes with a different scheme, and at the same time preserving the OEMs should they or a prospective future owner wish to restore the bike to original. If you look at my Castol, @PauloHRC 's former matt black, @raphael 's TT Legends etc, we have all gone for a new look. Other interest has been raised for their use as track fairings, again to preserve the OEMs for later resale. In both of these illustrations, the cost of these fairings is really insignificant compared to buzz it gives us in having a totally new 'personalised' bike.
I changed my fairings over to some matte blacks purely for track days. Coupled with gb racing covers it gives you a fighting chance of minimising possible damage in the event of a spill. The cost of replacing a full set of OEM bodywork is not something to be sniffed at compared to wrecking a set of Chinese ones......also there is some pleasure to be had swapping it all over. I'd do the same with my new bike if and when I decide to track day it......the fact it's on PCP makes it even more important to preserve the original bodywork!
My bike has done 39k and been knocked over 3 times with the drivers just leaving. Just the right fairing panel from honda is £400 + and another 135 quid for the sticker. I paid £400 for a whole bike kit and changed a tired looking bike to a really tidy one on the process. I’ll get the originals repainted as I have the skill set in the family to do it @ cost and repeat the process in a couple of years.
I stuck a scratched up secondhand set on my 12 plate blade when I was commuting and parking it in the city. Strapping luggage on, stone chips, careless moped Riders squeezing to park next door. It all just made me more relaxed about using it.
I found a stone chip on the repsol so I spent a silly amount putting oem Matt black on them. Then will put the repsol back on for resale and sell on the Matt Blacks
I sort of understand the @Stuish logic....I mean you fell in love with the bike in all it’s glory then change it and make it something else. On the flip side you want to preserve the goodness.... It’s a shame that I think it comes down to finances, because really if we all had enough money there would be no concern over chips scratches or wotnot...just get a new one or repaint.
I've been trying to explain that theory to you all for ages. Now can you understand my replacement wives?
