Anyone know of any companies that specialise in this? My dad has an old circular saw which his dad gave him but it broke recently and he thinks it's ready for the bin. Would love to surprise him with it all freshly painted and working again as it's the one thing he has from his dad so would be a shame to get rid of it! Cheers.
Go to a tool hire shop and ask them, smaller independent ones may be a little more easier if its something old, but basically they hire things out, it gets broken so often they have a repairs department.
It should not be hard to sort. Check motor ect for continuity. Personally I would not repaint . I have some old hand tools from my grandfather. We never met he went back to nz 3 days before I was born . But I look at the chips in the paint on his hand drills and planes when I use them.and wonder what he was repairing or making when that bit got chipped off or just knowing it was his hands that wore the paint off makes them a bit more special if that makes sense. I just made a storage box for all our shoes to go in. I'll upholster the top and it will double as a seat. I used grandfathers hand tools to make it as Imy wife wanted it to look old . I like to think it means we have a bit of him in the house.
Cheers guys. Will have to try and work out what's gone wrong with it. He was using it to cut my floorboards and it started sounding really rough as it the bearings or something had let go.
It’s usually brushes and bearings that go in most power tools, have a look at those first then dig deeper if it’s not them
do you have any photos of it? I do minor repairs on grinders at work when i feel like it but have a good repair shop that can get parts.
Like what sps said it is normally the brushes or bearings And this day and age it easy because we have the internet I have an old Bosch drill from the 80’s and that needed new brushes Done a search and found them. Or you need to go on TV (can’t remember the name of the show) and have them restore it
Here's the little devil. It nearly took my leg off a few weeks back, it's got a bit of a kick on it! I'm going to take it into work this week and test it out.
My dad, as most dads are, is terrible to buy gifts for. And not that he's getting his old circular saw back as a gift but if it brings a smile to his face or he can have satisfaction in building something like gravel trap has with it then it will be worth every penny. Makes me feel less shite when I hand over socks at Christmas
