Off to a Honda dealership tomorrow to try and trade in my blade against a brand neqw VFR800.
Mine is a 2009 with 34000miles on it, in very good codition with a few extras on it; ASV levers etc.
What sort of value should one expect to obtain, as a trade in? I was thinking £4000 ish!
    The new VFR800 is £9999.

Just had a look on bike trade I think that is a fair ask ...if they offer lower try loads of dealers ...also if lower they may throw in accessories or service plan etc.....cover....optimate...paddock stand....tank pad etc....

Problem is what we expect and what they will give are two totally different things when it comes to part-ex quotes. Dealers want to sell your bike for at least £1000 above what they gave you for it. When it comes to part ex quotes it’s a case of I want to get shut of this and how low will I go. Part ex quotes are always vastly disappointing.

Agree with @dessp2 and stick my neck out on this suggesting you'll be offered no better than 3500. I've seen your pics and they're great, however, the 34,000 miles pulls the value way down both as an exchange and a resale proposition. Sorry. :(

As above, I would take the extra bits off and sell them separately. If you get £3500.00 for the bike, you can them get a few quid back on the extras. Extras don't normally mean much to traders unfortunately.

I am at a point now where my bike has more sentimental value than monetary value. So if I do have the idea of a new bike, I am happy to start from scratch and hang on to mine.

Always annoys me why a higher mileage bike is worth considerably less than one with lower mileage, GG 10 years old bike has done an average of 3500 miles a year, why should that have such a dramatic effect on resale values.

Last year I got just under 4k for my rr7 with 17k, mods on and chinese fairings. Dealer sold it within a couple of weeks and could have sold it numerous times over. Newer blades they had were just taking up floor space and not selling and so they were more reluctant to take them in on PX.

I got top end of book, newer ones didn't as it was simply a case of supply and demand.

True, but I was attempting the 'gentle letdown ';)

Because when the choice is offered between 12.000 miles and 34.000 miles, the latter will remain on the shop floor. Just think back to your own mind set when looking to purchase.

Remember, bikes are like women; a high mileage model can remain appealing, but in reality is still well worn, hence the reason for opting for newer models.

As for @Great Guy , I'd hope you might try a private sale for better results.

Dealers usually prefer standard bikes to ones with many accessories as some mods can make them harder to sell

Pricing like everyone has said can be either in your favour or a kick in the balls! If you can sell privately and use that cash for the deposit and either sell any accessories with the bike or separate to make a bit more

I made the reverse trip from a VTEC (after 5 years) to CBR. Reasons: wanted more power (another 50hp) and less weight (under 200kg).
I take it you have considered these.
Altogether I really liked the VFR. Mine was a dealer pre-registerd with 600 miles on it but much cheaper.

Got £4000. I picked it up this morning. Do you reckon I should have asked for £5000?
The Hull dealership did not want my blade, so went elsewhere.

Yep, congrats. Proves the value of shopping around and proves that there's always a seller a bit more enthusiastic to do a deal than others.

Looks nice too. Second best colour to gold!!;)
