Hi all from Lancaster, I got my 2017 blade last year, my 4th one. 5th if I include my very long on going 92 project. Love the bike, love blades but this ones becoming a little unreliable. I guess it's over to the tech forum to see how many others are the same
There’s a few on here having some niggles mate and would appreciate some more detail? THhey even might be able to help sort your issues?
Welcome to the forum - pictures are a must. Sorry to hear your3 having issues but if you post details most likely someone will chip in with ideas to help
So problem is with the battery. Theres another lad in our group with same bike having same problem. Mines got a new battery. Did 500mtres to the shop, came to start it, barely turned over. Fired up then was fine. Went for another blast, dead battery. Shoud I be putting this in the tech section. I wonder if Honda know there is problems.
I don't mean to treat you like an idiot, but are you sure it's the battery? I haven't seen anything like this on the forum concerning 2017 -19s. When you say it 'fired up then was fine' how long was that after you determined the battery was 'dead'? I am wondering whether, and again excuse the simplicity, you might be trying to start it with the side stand down or in gear. Is that possible? As a point of reference, I have a 2018 and have not suffered anything like you describe.
You know what, I came on here to see if anyone else was having the same issues. As for trying to start the bike in gear or with the side stand down, well I have done that once maybe in my 30 years of riding bikes, so im pretty sure I know what thats like. So after fitting a new battery, yes with the negative and positive in the correct positions, the bike fired up. I rode to the shop, came out and when tried to start it was very sluggish, you know, when the starter motor turns over really slowly, then it fired up. Then i rode it. And it was fine. Then i went out a few days later, fired up, sorry, the bike started on the ignition, after coming to a stop and trying to start again, the battery would not start the engine. Now, normally Id have this thing apart and fixed but since its on pcp, looks like its going to Honda. It seems strange for it to happen on a new bike. I started the bike this morning, let if run for a few minutes, turned it off while I got some work stuff, came out and it wouldnt start. The thread title says Newbie, that means newbie to this forum, not to motorcycles. Was just looking to see if this was a known problem. It appears I have the only bike to do this.
If it's under warranty it would be wise to throw it back at Honda. Not impossible you got unlucky with a second battery but wouldn't think so. The 2008 or 2009 had a problem where the ABS could flatten the battery as it would stay active with the ignition off but not heard anything like that in newer models. Of course Honda's have had problems with reg/recs and also stators in the past but again there hasn't been a lot of people complaining about those.
Hello and welcome! Noticed Dalton Square there in the background of that pic, used to skate there back in the day.
Certainly no intention from me to consider you a newbie top motorcycles. In an effort to offer assistance with very limited background information, I presented a possibility that your 30-years' experience will agree that it is often the most simple things - often missed during a moment of stress or panic - that might present themselves as an issue. I hope the dealer manages to sort it promptly for you.
A similar thing happened to a friend of mines Kawasaki, turned out it was a 3rd party alarm that her husband had fitted to the bike that was completely zapping the battery. Process of elimination but do you have one fitted?
Fu## me cal, don’t up set him again My mate had the same with his 19 plate Took it back to Honda and they put a new battery straight on it Ok now
I had a similar thing happen with the repsol after a service and a new battery. They put another battery in and it sorted it.
