ABS vs non-ABS

    I'm picking my 2010 blade up from the workshop tomorrow as it's just had the abs removed because it was a death trap. One minute I pull the front brake lever and I stop, the next time I don't......I couldn't put up with it any longer so it's gone and braided lines have been added to.

    Boothman funnily enough I took a snippet of some advice you posted a while back about the abs regarding the light on the dash. Gave to the mech and he's sorted it, no abs light :)

    Just to add the mods I put in to attempt to resolve the issues

    countless ABS bleeds,calliper/rotor services!!!!!

    Braided lines,
    Updated ECU 2012
    Stainless steel pistons
    UHT Race Brake fluid
    Ktech Suspension
    Uprated charging system - battery, stator
    Brembo RCS19
    Brembo Discs/new OEM discs
    new abs pump modules main and front
    heat protection film on front module


    When the ABS is on form I can outbrake most on the road, when not time to clean the leathers!

    When it comes to riding/ driving and cooking, I like it and keep it very primitive. No doubt my next one will have the obligatory ABS an god forbid TC.

    Curious to know:

    For those who have changed to ABS bikes, how does this affect your riding?

    Did you have problems with locking up under braking before? Or any other issues that ABS has solved?

    Or do you ride faster into a corner or closer to the vehicle in front; rely less on your riding skill/ experience amd more on the ABS?

    Or you feel more comfy having less to focus on when riding?

    Started off on a non ABS, did everything right , loading up the fronts first then progressively harder braking. Brain continuously assessing road conditions etc

    You find that on an ABS you brake late and hard , as there no linear feedback you end up being quite binary. Braking zones become super late
    Found myself riding a little faster in traffic than I should knowing the ABS would just sort it out, just panic brake when you need to.

    Very interesting comment. Specially the point about the feel.

    I have noticed that in my car (1st with abs) to some extend and very pronouced on snow & ice: the feedback when the wheels are about to lock up is not there and only the buzzing of the pedal tells you you have locked up!

    I guess it must be a lot more pronouced on bikes and I know I won't like it until I get used to it:(

    Have you ever experienced the ABS fade issue? Just asking as I’m picking up my 2011 C-ABS Blade on Tuesday and all I’ve seen is horror stories about them
