Quick question: buying a helmet from EU.

    hi
    tried to google and not got a conclusive result,if you buy a helmet from germany etc and pay are you liable for vat over here,price in germany would include vat .
    Any members buy from germany etc,and did you get walloped :)

    Part of the EU then no vat or duty liability coming in to the UK

    Crash helmets are zero rated, so no VAT due.

    Just make sure that it carries the EC22/05 markings.

    Purchasing from a regular dealer will afford some assurances, much the same as buying from a dealer in the UK, but......It is a fair point you raise, especially in cases where the brand is not available here in the UK.

    Yeah, Louis Moto is one of the biggest bike clothing companies in Germany, stopped at a couple when I was over there.

    But it's not called Louis Moto over there, just Louis. They have two websites too, one for the German markets of louis.de and then eu markets with louis moto.

    I bought an Arai a few years back from France. No taxes as EU as others have said. Didn't come with a Gold ACU sticker though as that's a UK thing. After contacting Arai UK they said to take it to an authorized Arai dealer and after they checked it was authentic they put a Gold ACU sticker on it for free for me.
