Cleaning the bike this morning after a blast over to Cadwell and noticed a strange patch on the front tyre - not seen marks like this before, any ideas? 686866D7-46E0-478D-89E0-27660DAB8D7E.jpeg

Is it pick up - as in other people’s tyre marbles squashed on to the surface?

Looks more like loss of rubber, as in the marks you can see on the pic are indentations, just in that one patch too.

Potentially parked on some gravel when your tyres were very hot? Squashing it in with the weight of the bike?

This then sounds the more feasible - is there a similar patch on the rear?

I would agree, especially as it’s off centre as it would be on its side stand. I’ve had similar on my Power RS’s, although not as pronounced but all the way round.

Weird that its not on the rear also as it in theory would be hotter than the front. Unless it was that the ground where the front was parked on had been in the sun for a while and the back in the shade or was a different surface (concrete as opposed to tarmac)?

Or, he parked the hot front tire on the gravel (or whatever made the imprint) and the hot rear was not. The tires then cooled and when the rear rode over the offending imprint maker, it did not take on the impression.

Can't remember ever having parked on dissimilar surfaces.

I have started to wonder about petrol though?

I did run low on fuel a couple of weeks back and had to sit on the forecourt for best part of an hour waiting for the attendant to return from lunch. I'm normally very careful about where I park by the fuel pumps because of the amount of Diesel that gets spilt. But its not inconceivable that the front could have been on a fuel spill - having said that petrol would have evaporated pretty quickly I would have thought?

As I tried to get across (but failed) - it could be that the front wheel stopped on a bit of road that was in direct sunlight and as such was red hot but where the rear stopped that bit was in the shade so cooler, or the rear stopped on a concrete drain cover or something without such an undulating texture.

End result, I wouldn't worry about it. Looks to be an imprint, not a deformity or bad tire carcass.

And that brings about a request: 'Would you ( @Phil_M ) post a pic of the tyre after another week or so of riding, the interest being if it flattens out or worsens?

You can be sure I will be keeping a close eye on it on the next couple of rides Nigel and I'll post a pic after.
