If you need a reminder just quote a post with a spoiler and look at the tags.

Just as well you posted that, as I thought the Catalan GP was scheduled for the 14 June 2020. I had already set the wheels in motion to do that one - but not too late to change.

So now looks like I will be going to the German GP instead, as the date is better for work, and I have not been to that one yet. Bit of a ride out to get there !

    Hotel booked !

    Fantastic :)

I know it is only provisional, and the addition of a GP in Finland seems to have squished the other races together a bit.

But judging by some of the nearby hotels having sold out at that time seems to suggest that others have gone with it as well and made bookings - could be a coincidence.

Anyway the Hotel booking is only €160 and can be cancelled without charge before then. I just need to get it on the calendar at work - hotel booked all adds to the case - cries of having already booked it always help :D

From memory they have some weird food - some horrible sausages, but can't remember what it was called - made out of gonads and scrotums I think. But the snitzel was nice. :D

Anyway, plenty of time to have a look at a guide book - check out the food - and where the nearest unrestricted Autobahns are !

    Should be good.

    Are you thinking of Sauerkraut??

I've always enjoyed my trips to Germany, but have all been stag do type visits..... Never on the bike!

I don't find Ze Germans too hospitable though...... They might be but the language just comes across very aggressive!

Even 'good morning my good fellow' sounds like they want to kill you!:D

So true - the give away is the fact that nobody ever says “Lets pop down to that lovely German restaurant for a meal”

We represent (as an agent) a German company here in the UK and go to their factory half a dozen times a year. All the people over there are great, the scenery is amazing and the infrastructure is perfect, but the foods awful. There’s an Italian restaurant about 3 or 4 miles away and we always tend to eat there when we are on a trip.

German food is an acquired taste. I spent about 6 years there and so hot used to it, but some things still linger like their bread! Spent many a drunken DM at the local schelly/imbiss, Giros is pretty close to kebabs. Still like paprika crisps which was something I never had until I went there.

As for the Germans, well mainly they were more reserved, but quite hospitable if you just got on with it. Drunken German and drunken English are quite similar languages too which helped.

Not sure if it is still the case but in the 80's and 90's there was still a bit of reservation about being judged on what happened during the war. Had some chats with old Wehrmacht blokes and they had some stories that equalled what I used to hear from our side when growing up.

In the words of Basil - “Don’t mention the war”

Slipped up on one visit early November time one year when I had my poppy pin in my lapel. “Vos ist dast Herr Ron?” Was followed by a careful explanation - didnt get any feedback if the Germans do something similar

Ze Germans are a funny lot. My fathers uncle married a German woman while fighting in the war. She's 92 now, very feisty and still, to this day (even after living in New York for the past 70 years), sounds as if she just got plucked out of Germany.

At the senior community where she lives, she's been barred from playing cards with the other women.

She has attacked a few of them over accusations of cheating.
