Just googled it, see below, and the limit is £8,800 so you were ok, though from my experience (limited as that is) £5k has been the most a dealer has been prepared to accept in notes.

Finance is king, they make as much on it as in the metal.

if there is a deposit contribution some take the finance and settle three mths later. It will be priced right and this gives the sales execs confidence to hold firm, the only thing you are fighting for is his commission but ladder bonuses are dead now so its just another sale where he will make as much selling you paint protection and GAP as he will the car

They use tools on Auto Trader etc to ensure they are on the first search page of every price for that car, but has been said prices can go up

my only advice is try hold out until the end of the mth and call them 5 days before when they need to hit a financial target

gone are the days cash is king its the worst thing ever and there are no longer £1’000s on used cars, the market is in decline and for some they are losing money.

point to note, with new cars slow, means part exchangers are low and good 2-3yr old stock hard to come by so what minimal stock of this age there is will
Not stick around if priced right, they plan to sell within 30 days and probably will hence limited haggle room, add to that top money paid at auction and Vat to pay on the profit + prep + warranty.. its tough to talk discount.

Some good advice here @Lozzy......I think when most people refer to being a cash buyer these days it's going to be a transfer or card payment. Long gone are the days when we had to draw it out of the bank and scurry through the streets back to the car and hide the bulging envelope under the seat ha!:D

Just try your luck and blag a couple of grand off the price and then try meet somewhere in the middle;)

Does it have a heated rear screen??

You know.......to keep your hands warm when you're pushing it!!;):D

Couldn't find another SP Repsol and that is the bike I wanted. Here in the US, they tend to frown on cash purchases of $10,000 or more. As stated previous, it is to limit money laundering.

Yes, I understand and accept that. But I have experienced, and circumvented that EXACT situation by abandoning one dealer and going to another, where I paid by 4 separate instalments of cash.

I have great difficulty in accepting 'PC' rules and regs. When I have worked hard for my money over a lifetime, and am able to justify all that income, I do not expect to be told HOW I might be able to spend it. Sure, I agree it sounds 'toffee-nosed' but that's not the real me.

To me it is a matter of principle. A business can either choose to sell its product to me on MY terms or not sell the product. Their choice.;)

@nigelrb did I mention my SP was the Honda US show bike? It had been to all the Moto Expo events and the INTERMOT, so it was put on a showroom floor after all the other SP Repsol models had sold. I wasn't going to find another one.

I get what you are saying, but sometimes, you have to take a little to get a little. The joy of owning the bike far outweighs the bother that trip back to my bank inflicted on me.

your cash or not, a business takes a risk great than the profit breaking these rules

That's what 'm talkin' about! Take crap from no one:).

I remember in my early 30s I attended a SAAB dealer with great interest in a two-year-old 900 EMS. Was dressed in very ordinary tracky dacks - way before the 'grunge' look was in. I was dismissed as a dreamer by the three-piece-suited wannabe.

Returned the following day and approached the guy, this time dressed in my own three-piece-suit. 'Remember me from yesterday?'
'Oh yes, sir.' (He hadn't called me 'sir' before')
'I just wanted to show you the car I bought yesterday,' pointing to the silver SAAB I'd parked out the front.

So Lozzy, best wishes for tomorrow am.;)

Customer service, or lack thereof, could nearly be a thread in its own right.

In these days where 'feedback' is sought from nearly every transaction, it is most surprising that many businesses haven't upped their game to avoid negative feedback. I wonder if the disgruntled can't be arsed? (to steal someone's favourite term;)).

A mate of mine had been doing a bit of DIY and wifey finally managed to get him out of the house to visit the local Vauxhall dealers in his scruffy togs to get himself a brand new £30k Omega Elite, he walked into the showroom when a suited dealer approached him and said sorry sir, used car sales next door. He travelled 40 miles to the next one gave them his money!

I did much the same when I bought my Monaro. I was dressed in BDU's and a sweaty tee shirt, dusty boots and all. I couldn't get help if I was on fire. I went back with my new car and proceeded to do a nice little burnout in their service lot..lol

Was drooling over this when my old 5 series went in for recall work the other month! Mine cost me £1600 to buy!!!
Couldn’t get 2 alloys for that price for an M4!

Again, you’d have to pay me to drive this one!
