I watched something incredible this morning. I know it was an experiment and not a recognised IAAF record but it was something special. Brilliant performance.
Is it a World Record though ? I thought he broke the world marathon record - the first sub 2hr marathon ......
It's not a record but it happened. I understand why it won't be classed as a record, a special event over a specifically chosen circuit, and TBH the pace setters were also a nice windbreak/slipstream, but at the end of the day he ran a marathon distance in under 2 hours and was the firat recorded person to do so. EDIT: Forgot to mention he also has "special" trainers on. Not sure if they were prototypes or unapproved ones.
They're new prototype Nikes - for sale shortly for £240 apparently! Still an unbelievable achievement. 8 and a half consecutive 14 minute parkruns
I think they are going to be more than that! They are custom prototype versions of the ZoomX already for sale for £240 madness! https://www.nike.com/gb/t/zoomx-vaporfly-next-running-shoe-XZfxLn His version has custom 'airbags' in the front portion of the shoe, not many details apart from a patent that the internet has found.
Eliud Kipchoge? Who? What? I have missed this remarkable achievement. Only those who have run marathons can truly understand how remarkable this is - whether aided or no. Ref here for others who have missed: https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2019/10/12/eliud-kipchoge-marathon-two-hours-ineos-159-challenge/
Read about it first here - breaking news (no tin foil hats) I heard they are going to call them Marathon bars again - someone at work told me they were going to change the name back to what it was so it must be true.
