so while getting a quote for the next bike I asked what the differences would be if I fitted a tracker?
I must say the response left me a little surprised!
As you have Honda hiss and data tag
It won’t make any difference at all as we have applied a discount for the other two security options but I would suggest it’s a good idea. WTF;);)
Has anyone else come across this?

Yep other than your own peace of mind, datatag carries more weight than honda hiss and tracker, at least it emails you when its flattened your battery :D

I never declare any security beyond what is standard on the bike, but have to admit I never checked if adding/removing factory fitted immobiliser made any difference.

Yep I was told an alarm or tracker would knock about £20 off. For the hassle both cause and the cost of them it makes no practical sense to have either. Not to mention you’ve got to ask yourself if it got pinched would you ever want to see it again?

I’ve never declared any optional security other than standard equipment as @Barstewardsquad im always too worried I’d forget to put it on that one time and the bike would be nicked invalidating my insurance.

First year of blade ownership I forgot to declare the HISS. The next year I did quote with and without and got around £100 discount for having it. For reference the quote I took out was £128 fully comp, RR7 blade, 8 years ncd and 30 years old

I had a tracker fitted to the V4 but strangely the insurance was a lot cheaper without it....?

So by deduction, your bike represents a higher risk with a tracker!!;)

Maybe Insurance/Underwriter logic is that if you feel the need to fit extra security you must have concerns about theft and therefore present a higher risk ;)

Came across this few years back; in the end, the little or no saving did not justify the expense and the risk of draining the marginal batteries on these bikes.
The final decision depend on your own piece of mind.
Must say I like data tag because it can help identifying stollen parts (Am I right?)

    Yes
Yep, I bought a second honda about 6 weeks after the blade and opted out of getting it fitted even thought it was free, by then i realised it made no difference and drained my battery.

one more point any security device declared on your insurance (passive or active) must be fitted & fully functional & active when it comes to theft claim.

That apparenlty applies to the steering lock

I put the datatag id on my first EXUP then later found very few police could scan for them and even less did so.

I have the Trakking on my bike. It was recently taken in a van for its service and the tracking company called me almost immediately, as it started moving without the ignition being turned on. The system works. But I wouldn't disclose the tracker being installed for insurance quotes.

Years ago I had a Sierra 4x4 same thing, thought the tracker would save me money and when I enquired it didn’t so I have never looked again
