Damn. Just at the wrong time I see my fave colour early Blade ('96) listed on eBay.

Always wanted one since the day they came out, and looked at one at a dealer about 6 months ago. I have been looking for a sub-£1K winter hack and came across this:

High mileage (for me) and wishful thinking that it'll get no bids. Probably sell for £2300-sh I suppose.

I might get my friend @gary1966 on the case. He'd have the tenacity (or arse) to pick it up for a grand.:D;).

There is a lot of blemishes, corrosion and imperfections there to haggle with; but could you live with them, even if you did get it for a grand??

Nah, that's my problem. I'd start pouring money into it. I don't think my mind accepts the definition of 'winter hack'.:(:(:(

The good thing about choosing something like a 90s blade as a winter bike is you aren't going to lose anything on it aslong as you look after it. Also anything you do spend on it to put things right will all be re-couped if you come to sell.

Nige steer clear. It looks a bit scruffy by our standards. The screen is not original and look at the discs and front forks. Nah.

Agree, Charlie and Des. My problem is that I cannot separate the 'emotional' from the 'practical' connection which would result in me doing everything from a deep clean through to a total bolt and screw replacement. The damn thing would end up owing me £6K!!;)

Of course fellow friend @raphael would rally to the cause with a donation of freshly removed titanium bolts:):).

For the moment this 900 is on my 'Watch List' whilst I keep trawling.

Cheap way to save money on new bolts....get a fine grade sandpaper and a tube of autosol. That's what I did with my VFR. All the fairing bolts had started to tarnish so i just gave them a quick sand down then buff and polish. Yes it's a bit of elbow grease but it probably saved £40-50 for replacement bolts. There are some big bolts in the VFR fairing, 25mm diameter heads so they were a bit of an eyesore.

Easy. I will be able to do 15-mile loops in preparation for the following summer. One has to think ahead, BB.;)

I bought one exactly the same colour as this back in may. Had 68k on the clock and had been parked in the garage for 5 years as the elderly owner of 17 years felt he was too old to keep riding. Paid £300 for it had it running and on the road for a few hours work and £70 in parts. Was gonna strip and tidy but would have ended up spending a fortune on it and with those miles wouldn't have been worth it. Sold it on last month for £700. I'd say that's got be worth about £12-1300 as needs a lot of tidying
