Hi everyone. Just curious as to what flooring you have in your garages/man caves/lady caves etc. I stuck the foam matting down in mine mid summer and whilst it’s super comfortable under foot it don’t half squash, I’m concerned about sticking my blade on its paddock stand in there (I have a plate of aluminium cut in where the side stand sits). Got me to thinking, should I change it back to painted concrete, although I had this previously and after a few months the paint started falling and generally looked pants. What do you all sit your bikes on? Any suggestions as to a good in between that doesn’t cost the earth like rubber tiles? Cheers
IF I had a garage I would use hard acrylic paint of a light shade which would make it easier to locate any dropped nuts and screws etc. Fair enough to have a Yoga mat or similar if you're working underneath the bike, but the next optimum 'accessory' would be a hydraulic lift bench of the Sealey or similar type.
I have a painted concrete floor and the sp sits proudly on a genuine WSBK Matt I got from Cresent racing last year probably the only time a sp has ever been on one maybe that's why mine is faster than others its gives it confidence to perform like it should of done....
I have rubber mats down and I just put a puck under the side stand. Done that for about 7 years now without an issue.
Of course you would. Bike lifts are like women: you think you don't need them, but once you have one (or two) you wear the bejesus out of them!!
My garage was carpeted in a nice terracotta for a few years, ,, it was great because if I dropped anything it didn't bounce, ,,,, but Mrs selmer50mark made me throw it out because it started to smell (I couldn't smell anything ) and I wouldn't hoover it so i had a big clear out and painted it a rather fetching Gray
Well ......this is a subject very close to my heart as I'm very close to completing the man cave from heaven. As it stands I have plastered walls, spot lights, skirting boards and double doors to the rear. Electric roller shutter door apparently being fitted tomorrow I intend using some kind of resin bond mid grey garage floor paint, after the floor has been screeded so it's like a billiard table. Over the next few weeks I will be turning it into area fit for the bike and for me to spend many a happy hour tinkering in what can only be described as an area of science lab cleanliness! I'll use this thread to post some piccys up as I go!
Carpet Just went to the local carpet place and bought a roll-end. Nice and cheap and when it gets wrecked I'll just buy another one.
Yep carpet for me too, painted the floor with screwfix's own grey paint then went to local carpet shop and bought a decent size piece. Warm enough in the winter and you can lie on it in reasonable comfort.
Misses wants new carpets in the house in the next couple of months. May well end up taking the old ones and stuffing them in the garage
My last garage was tiled, keeps the dust away. if there was a downside dropping anything tools etc but some carpet or rubber matting when your doing stuff helps. In the midst of planning for a extension, the garage I have now is shite, was built in the 60's by a self build farmer, every corner you can cut was, so a nice new garage will be built. Downside is how do I explain the heating bill when I put in underfloor heating without telling the Mrs
Allow me to help: 3 weeks after floor is finished and next power bill is received, engage in general conversation with Mrs Brom: You: 'You know what love, friggin' builders must have stuffed something with the electrics. Look at this damn power bill.' Mrs Brom: 'I told you to check their references!' You: 'Leave it to me, I'll get it sorted.' Hopefully, the following bill will not arrive until the Spring . . . You: 'See the power bill, love. All sorted. Back down to normal.' Mrs Brom: 'That's a relief. Let's cash in on that and go out for dinner!' See, it's a win/win situation! Can't go wrong!
