There have been some comments about the Africa Twin and specific aspects thereof, but with the arrival of the new 2020 models maybe time to bring the story up to date. The 2020 models look ace. They look well made and gleaming like a Honda should. They seem to have had some serious thought and consideration thrown at them as well like Honda are determined to get this one right. Different seat heights, different models for more road or off road bias and some margin for upgrades as well. Bigger motor, nice pretty paint schemes, lots of tech including quickshifter and "lecky" tronics. Thinking - that is not half bad. Would be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts - and pictures ! Quite like the basic one more., if it had gold wheels ...
I sat on one at the NEC, it was really comfy and I could be persuaded to get one for touring..but then I sat on the 2020 BMW XR and I forgot about the Africa Twin completely!
You mean this thing ? a BMWSXR ? Does it look any better from another angle ? perhaps this is not its best side
Local dealership are getting one in next week, so I will go and have a look. We have moved offices at work and so my nice free secure parking is in jeopardy - you would not believe the cat fight for the parking spaces at the new office. There is no nice little dedicated M/C parking space included as there is with the current office. The parking situation is all a bit uncertain for me, I may get a space or be able to share with someone who has a Smart car. Nobody is volunteering to give up any space for me to put my bike, so I will offer to share a corner of someone's space for a price, if necessary. See what happens. The lease on the current office does not expire for a couple of years yet, so we are forced to pay for that, so I can keep the bike there in the meantime. But we could find a new tenant for that at any time and I would be forced to move my bike. Such is life, but on the plus side it might mean an Africa Twin makes more sense for me - so off to the motorbike shop - horray
Already pushed a tester cause an engine failure (with an NC750X) out of the freeway in middle of DEC.
I owned an XR for 2 years (17-19). Cracking bike, never missed a beat in 9000 miles. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea though looks wise. Bought it new in cash from a main BMW dealer. I got rid because I couldn't justify all that money tied up in a 2nd bike. Sold it, put £10k in the bank and bought a 20 year old VFR instead . I'm getting just as much enjoyment from the VFR and it's quite nice to have a bike that's not got tonnes of money tied up in it.
