I'm back on with car related queries!

My sister is close to buying a car, we done an hpi check this morning and there is a mileage discrepancy. It is advertised as 6900 miles, the clocks show this and the paperwork we have seen shows this also.

The car doesn't look like a 60k mile car, however the above is a bit concerning! We know it was previously a company pool car which was the only registered owner.

Avoid? Ask some questions? I'm guessing this will always be part of the vehicles history and will affect its future sales value?

Yeah I would guess at a change of clocks? I personally would avoid unless there is paperwork to back a clock change up of which it doesn’t sound it if it’s advertised with 6k miles. If it doesn’t seem right, walk away. Nothing worse than being left with a lemon.

I just assumed it would be a typo, 6 odd thousand miles to 60k miles but like you say it's a risk that isn't worth taking.

I know we will have a battle on our hands as they have already been arsey about us using their online 'move me closer' option and pressuring her to commit to a sale before the car was moved. She had to pay a deposit to move it was should be refunded but I bet they argue the toss!

Can that be removed though? If BMW can prove with other paperwork that this was an error?

The shady thing is this is a nationwide dealer (not bmw) and they advertise the car as fully hpi checked however did not disclose the fact this discrepancy was there. I cant imaging trying to trade it in to a dealer in a couple years time. They will offer peanuts or not be interested at all. Same for any private purchasers

99% likely to be a typo. See it all the time on MOTs. If the price is good I wouldn't worry about it.

If the dealers being a dick I’d run. If they have covered it up (even being a typo) what else are they hiding?!

But does it ever work in our favour with a lower mileage recorded?

Perhaps it's like supermarket register scanners that will incorrectly price an article higher, but never lower. (And yes @Lozzy , I've complained about that too!!;))

Cheers guys. Took her in today to see them about it and they are going to speak to BMW, hopefully they can prove this was a mistake and the mileage register can remove this from its records.

Why it wasnt picked up on their HPI check is a mystery. Snakey bastards...

At least as it’s a company pool car, it will have that amazing optional extra, where it’s been driven as fast in reverse as any of the forward gears, always a useful extra if you need to get away from somewhere fast ;)
