Morning all, just a quick question when I brought my 06 blade it came with cheap Chinese rearsets that were uncomfortable,is there any rearsets out there that would be more comfortable for me being nearly 6ft tall and get a bit of arthritis in my hips and knees, any ideas ?

I am 6’4” Phillip so know where you are coming from.
I fitted Giamoto rearsets to my 17 blade and they made a big difference
They are not cheap at £400 but are beautifully made and easy to fit and adjust.
Not only were they more comfy for normal / commuting but they made a big difference when I was on track as being further back they enabled me to get a more secure position on the bike so I could hang off properly.

I have Gillies on my R1M they are also very good, but I have not had experience of them on a Fireblade.

Try swapping back to the original items if you have them. Or purchase some secondhand units as they will be far cheaper than the Rearset option. So many people make the mistake of making the bike way to race orientated and destroy any ergonomics the bike had. Realistically you should only need them if your running out of ground clearance. Most rearsets options only give you the scope to move higher and further back from the original position... I’ve seen people not even take any measurements from original and then just stuff them on the most extreme position and wonder why there knees and hips are aching!!

That’s true Dave, I checked the measurements of the Giamotos and Gilles against stock positions before I purchased, Both gave lower and further back from stock giving more leg room and lower knee position.
But a lot of rearsets I checked did not offer a lower position so would not have met my requirements.

How much lower and further back are the Gilles compared to standard?

this is from the manual for the R1M so not sure if the positions are exactly the same for the blade
I also modded mine by creating a extra grove so they are 20mm lower when fully back,
The Gillies are a little odd as they go up as they go back, hence i added an extra grove so they go lower.

    +1 for the OEM
On my gixxer I went OEM -> Gilles -> OEM

Not bothered about changing them on the Blade, I'm more than happy with OEM (I'm 6' 2")

I've got Gilles on the SP and they're ok for my 34" leg but tbh the oems on the standard blade are more comfy even though I've adjusted the gilles as favourable as possible

I've had a few different ones on mine (2011):

Original styles Gilles ones (not VCR), they had a reasonable range, but I found them too flexy.
Lighttech - these are really well made and are solid - have about 6 positions you can move the pegs too.
I've picked up some cheap R&G ones too as track spares (not tried them yet), but they look to have a fair bit of adjustability. - don't look as cool as the Lighttech ones though :)

defo worth getting a pair of OEM to try before you fork out for some new aftermarket rearsets, as you could probably pick some up really cheap on eBay.

I have the Gilles on my SP, they are infinitely adjustable and could accommodate you, I believe.

Yes, they have a central locking point that allows you to adjust in all directions.
