After Boris's mixed conundrum announced at 7pm this evening, who is going back to work tomorrow ? Or should I say from the construction industry or your if self employed, and the main contractor you have work for several months has not contacted you to turn up at 8am in the morning, or they have gone into liquidation, or quite simply they can not afford to have you all back working ! WTF do you do ? Sorry Boris for me tonight's message on a Sunday to the nation was a bit fucked up, urging everyone that can to go to work tomorrow go. Is it that simple, well not for me it isn't !!!
I kept checking my phone for texts a missed call or e mail and nothing from my work . then get a call at ten this morning saying we are open . normal hours now where are you ect. I replied well no one has told me this and I've 3 kids here at home being schooled over the internet all their 3 different schools are still closed and as you know my wife is a teacher in a special needs school so she's been at work everyday anyway so I'm a bit stuck really. err we will get back to you. Boris well done no fuckers knows what's going on .
My sister was due back today, had a letter last week in advance of the latest announcement. They messaged her this morning just before she was about to set off to say the office is staying closed
I work in the one of the most non-essential industries, ie Marketing. Due to the nature of the work and having Teams, Skype etc all implemented months ago its been business as usual. We all took pay cuts to keep our jobs safe but that said, this has been made less painful as I do not have the expensive commute or daily rip off lunch to buy! Ironically its just been as busy, we have many clients that rather send out marketing bumf have sent out tonnes of COVID - how we're keeping you safe etc. My employer has also mandated at least 1:30 lunch break and regular breaks from the desk which I fill with bike tinkering. From a social POV we have a Teams meeting for at least 30mins a day reserved just for banter- could actually get used to this.
I think its proved alot of people can work from home. Speaking to a neighbour the other night he was saying he knows someone that was running a large office with a few hundred staff. After being forced to work from home they have realised it is more than doable and are looking to downsize offices massively to have a core team work from with everyone else operating from home. Probably suits everyone and could have been done a long time ago!
never been off work up to now working seven days a week including double shifts to make sure everyone's internet and phone lines are working never been so bloody busy I don't think there is a street in the north of England we haven't bloody dug up
At home until operation normal I think. I'll only need to attend the site if there's an incident or I make up a reason when I'm bored at home. I've cancelled my car parking season ticket, I'm not filling the car up every week or so and I'm not paying for lunch in the city centre. So I'm happy with that. Oh and I'm also not getting the shitty, leaving, birthday, marriage, collections or paying for team lunches. Yes I'm sociable. I do know a couple of people who pay for offices, who have now realised they can do everything from home, so are going to bin them off.
I’ve been back full time for over 3 weeks now - haven’t really stopped. Been working weekends too to safe guard my job, luckily I haven’t had to take a pay cut, and when I was furloughed my employed bumped my wages up to the 100% in an agreement for extra hours when we opened again. Works well, only 1/4 of us in, need the wheels of industry to start turning again as everyone is cautious of cash flow and holding work back as late as possible.
Just finished a 7 x 12hr night duty run in my local community hospital. (Ireland) Off for the next week thankfully. Can never get used to ND. Only do night every 6-8 weeks. No Covid cases yet, but lot's of precaution around PPE & hand washing. Lots of €€€ spent on preparing (old closed down units) for possible isolation beds/wards. Most cases in Ireland are centered around Dublin, Cork. Here in the Mid-West we have been lucky. It seems the UK are running at twice the death rate as to the ROI if you do the math. Still seems to be like watching a disaster movie, but in real life, a cure isn't found within 2hrs. Stay safe
Never stopped working, was in holiday when it kicked off and have been working from home since then. We're continuing to work from home for the foreseeable future, probably until at least December as there is very little room at work to social distance and the toilets and kitchen are down a corridor that isn't exactly wide. Lease on the building is due to expire next year and apparently they are giving serious consideration to letting it lapse and we just wotk from home and hot desk from a manufacturing site if needed. I can see landlords and the car industry having to reset their expectations if this becomes as widespread as I think it may.
anyone got a link to what we are allowed to do ? Heard on the news people can play golf , where does it state about going out on our motorbikes ? Is there anything that states it’s ok ? stevie
