been out a couple of hours nearly home just a 10 min motorway stretch then off for my town as I went down slip road I herd a high pitched siren type noise checked over shoulder no emergency vehicles. tipped onto roundabout and as I went round and hung off a bit it got louder. just after the roundabout is a large layby I pulled in and same noise bike was running fine idled perfect I bliped throttle and all good . then I started to smell hot plastic . I took off lid gloves ect turned her off and noise got louder. I got off and smoke was pouring out the back of the riders seat fuck fuck fuck . I really didn't want the old girl to burn so as best I could I pissed down back of the seat . the smoke stopped but noise carried on . called Mrs gt to tell her what was going on and that I'm ok ect then called rac. be with you in 2 hours sir and if we don't fix we will then send a recovery truck. I'm about 3 miles from home so thanks but don't bother ill push it . it took another 20 mins but the high pitched noise stopped. I got to top of a hill and thought ok let's bump it and limp home . she would not start on button would not turn over . she fired up and ran fine. I kept revs up in case it was stator or rectifier again . got home and started to strip her down . all looks fine but battery was red hot . so i removed it . loom looks good. got leaf blower on bike to cool it down then thought I'd check temp of battery . it had been not running and out bike about 30 mins by now but fuck it was hot. never had that happen before.

That is mental hot. I've melted the 10mm cable on an old Landie before and the battery went up in smoke in my drive but never seen it in a bike

So are you assuming it's a charging fault cooking the battery?

If you can put the battery on a charger outside the bike and monitor it’s behaviour

pissing on anything electrical could bbq your sausage or give you a permanent erection ;)

I got a couple of chargers so ill put it on charge today and see what happens whilst I work on my kxf . I'll buy a battery at work tomorrow anyway as being that hot won't do it any good .

Check the reg/rec and then the stator, likelihood one or both of them is frying the battery.
