There is a Serial number in the v778 (retention certificate) and a document reference number, the serial number don’t show, you should just need the name and address of the grantee and the vehicle reg number. Any reputable plate manufacturer wouldn’t steal the number obviously but always exercise due diligence. Failing that order a set from eBay then when the plate is on the vehicle you can use the v5 to get another set if needed.

Thats a point. Do I get the plates before I inform the dvla and insurance? Then tell them once they arrive and I can put them on the car?

Do it online, it’s instant, and you’ll get your new v5 within a week, you can still run the old plates on the vehicle. Just carry the details of the plate change for if you get stopped.

Depends on if you want the plates fully legit or not, as you can just get some show plates made up without the need to showing the V750.

You can even get a show plate company to make one up for you to legal specs, but I think it'll still be illegal, as the number plate needs to have the makers name stamped on the back of it, but don't quote me on that (may not apply anymore???)

Sorry to all you who have them but pointless, tacky and pretentious. If it’s a car wanting to join my line I never let them in, if it’s in front of me I want to get past it.

I don't like them for all the above reasons mentioned but also for another reason. I always think the reg is part of who the car is. I always keep cars for quite a long time and can still remember all the reg plates back to the first car. Feels like the original reg is part of its identity and I'm not going to mess with it.

    You're absolutely right mate....

I've lost count of the number of times I've come up behind another bike and thought...

Wow he's got a brand new motorcycle.....I can tell by the plate...

And I've just stayed there.....stuck behind them.....transfixed with wonderment and jealousy...

Please spare a thought for our plight and try and put your private one on a bit sooner so we can fuck off past and get on with our lives...

    ;):D xx

    No matter what I do, you guys always hate it;

Private plate on a slightly small mars bar, really cool eye looking lenses, a chain that's a tiny bit dirty you name it!

    I give up.

Come on Nigel, let's go for another pint...

I've got a private plate on the Blade, missus bought it for me last Christmas. I quite like it although TBH it's not immediately obvious that it's a private plate, unless you know it's a Fireblade and you know my initials but it makes the bike a bit more individual to me, (in my head at least).

They're not everyone's cup of tea, I get that. Must confess I'm not much of a fan when folk start messing with the spacing or the shape of the individual letters to make it read like something it isn't. That's just trying a bit too hard in my opinion.

I got a private plate, means I can run a smaller plate and still stay legal, besides I wanted one and could afford it so why not.

Saw a great one the other day, the reg was JFD 1 T :D
