Good luck with getting medical help at the present time, a week ago I ripped my knee during a workout, next day in real pain phoned 111 for advice who said I needed to go to A&E immediately, once I got there a nurse screens you at the door, and refused to allow me in as I needed to go to to my GP as only they can arrange an MRI, puzzled but not prepared to argue as these guys have/are under real pressure, she then followed with I should go to the next town where’s there’s a minor injury clinic, asked why, she responded they can give pain relief advice and a prescription for painkillers, when I mentioned I was standing outside A&E and could they not do the same , she replied yes, but only if she thought I needed to be in A&E, and she didn’t.
So being a Saturday, I went to Boots, bought a knee brace and the pharmacist sold me the strongest tabs she could, they didn’t touch the pain, Monday finally get a callback from the GP...... you need to go to A&E....been there Doc, that didn’t work.
She then phones the hospital and phones me back and tells me she has arranged for a Orthopaedic Dr to see me, so up again to A&E, explain what’s happened and this time get through the door, still have to do through the triage process, 2 hours later see the Doc, she sends me for an X-ray even stating it’s not likely fractured but it’s quicker than an MRI and she would see me after, 15 mins later back in waiting room, 3 hours later seen by a nurse, ohh the Doc finished her shift earlier, we’ve ordered an MRI, but has it’s now 10PM, you will not get an appointment until tomorrow, but I have to take bloods and give you a Covid test as you are coming back in!
No call the next day, phone MRI dept, who check the record, no request for an MRI, phone the A&E dept....your not our patient, your under Ortho, phone them, oh the Drs gone home, phone back tomorrow, phone next day, speak to secretary, I’ll get back to you, no call, phone again later, sorry forgot, will speak to Dr now. Phones back he’s ordered an MRI, phone MRI dept in morning....phone in morning...nope no MRI ordered, phone secretary again...I’ll call you back.
She phones back, Drs changed his mind he won’t order an MRI yet, he will see how you get on and will see you in fracture clinic 3rd Aug. and if I am still in pain they will do an MRI. On stating it’s 24/7 pain and struggling to sleep and move around without pain, she says if you can’t cope go to A&E!!!!!! On advising that they have already said I’m not their patient, she advises call GP maybe they will have a solution....... at this point I admit defeat and will wait until the 3rd.

I know the NHS has been in crisis mode, and ultimately my injury is minor and will eventually get sorted, but I read and see people are in suffering from life threatening illnesses as some are clearly dying due to being unable to access treatment, the NHS is open but clearly not they way we are being told.....if only they were honest with us.

Beer, red wine and Bacardi, don’t touch the pain either, but it’s a lot better than bottles full of drugs that don’t work.

Sorry to hear that, but am not surprised. Have had to deal with NHS a fair few times over the past week where their performance was literally sublime to ridiculous.

MIL was very dehydrated, ambulance crew tried their best and well above the norm to get her on a suitable ward, but despite spare beds they wouldn't accept her as she would need blood tests and they don't currently do that. She then ended up in A&E who put a drip in to get some fluids in and then tried to discharge her and send her home. Now bearing in mind she is nearly 80 with stage 6 Alzheimers this was ridiculous, FIL struggles to get her to out her teeth in let alone stop her ripping out the cannula.

Wife managed to get Doctor to agree that she needed admitting but once again best Ward refused to accept her as she had a drip in her arm, f**k knows who they would have accepted. Luckily Doctor managed to get her on another ward, not OAP/Alzheimer but at least it was a bed and nurses who have done a great job keeping her medicated etc.

To top it off the Wife has done her foot in. Hospital, a different one, wouldn't x-ray without a Doctor's referral letter despite Wife being at A&E. Next day we got the referral but x-ray didn't appear to show anything so wife kicked out and told to go back to Doctors in 4 days when they would have the results. Wife rang Doctors, turns out they don't get sent the pics, just a precis of the info, amd so they told her she should be spending all day sat down with her foot elevated. Welcome to 21st Century medical care.

These two tales paint a woeful picture.
Hope it all works out for the best for both/all of you

Moved on slightly, see the specialist this week and in his opinion there’s a tear in the knee and then states the classic .....you need an MRI young man....well he got the MRI bit right, but concerned about his eyesight if he thinks I’m young, though wearing a mask does make it a bit harder to age people I guess.
When I responded with ‘No shit Sherlock’ he looked genuinely shocked, so I relayed the tale of woe, and to his credit got me into a scanner the next day, which for the NHS is good going, but....and a big but...it’s a private company running the scanner in a NHS hospital and they hit me with the report takes 2 weeks to get back to the consultant, gobsmacked, but on moaning was told that’s the contract they have signed upto with the NHS. So much for outsourcing.

So a frustrating wait for the follow up appointment to see what the damage is and what the fix is, and after being told to walk on it as much as possible, the next quack I saw a week later, said complete rubbish and it should be off the ground and dispatched me with 2 crutches, whereas this bucko said that’s totally wrong and it’s 1 crutch and light weight on it, doesn’t give a lot of confidence in their knowledge TBH.

So the riding season is slipping away at a rapid rate of knots, and can’t see me being back in the saddle anytime soon.

NHS has never been under stress since March. The max hospital load was 60%. What you got told on TV and dailymail is not what's happening in reality.

Sorry for your injury, you're better off in private hospital if your insurance allows it

Glad they are finally sorting stuff for you, not surprised with the delay though. Used to work for a company that sold software systems to Police Forces where the software was always written to the design spec, even when everyone knew it was wrong.

Ironically I had another interaction with the NHS today. Wife had an appointment for 10-ish at the Fracture Clinic so early morning to get up and get the horses sorted in time. I drop her off and head to McDs for breakfast and a coffee, and I was in the queue to collect when the missus rang to say that apparently despite the telephone call confirmation and the confirmation letter in her hand they no longer do Fracture Clinics on a Saturday morning. If it wasn't for the fuckwits I would be posting about my early morning ride to the coast on a glorious morning, instead I am sat in the car whilst the missus undertakes some retail therapy.

Luckily this thread doesn't cover social workers who ring at 09:30 to cancel an appointment at 10:00 when you have taken a day's holiday and driven for 1.5 hours to get to the meeting venue! Apparently he had a headache and a sore throat:mad:

Fuckwittery is not just limited to the NHS!
