Hi, looking to get a blade back in the garage but it looks like the budget will only stretch to 04/05 models. I’ve previously had a 2001 and a 2008.

Is there anything specific to look out for on the 04/05?

    cheers

Just the usual mate as in, serviced, dropped. A good year for the blade TBF.

Try for an 06-07 if you can. Many good improvements and refinements over the 04 - 05.

Cheers guys. There’s a few 06/07 that could be within budget, but will probably be just out of reach. We’ll see I guess, I’ve sent quite a few eBay messages this afternoon so I’ll see who replies tomorrow!

Having had both at the same time I can honestly say that there is no significant difference between the two, other than looks and gearing.
IMO I would just concentrate on getting the best one that your budget will stretch to, rather than aiming for the later one just because of technical differences.

Basic checks should include, no contamination in the oil & water, no engine rattles and the gear changes are smooth.
Problems that have come up on these are, missfire at a given rev (spark plugs), clunky 3rd gear (gear shaft support or replacement cassette), cam chain rattle (replacement tensioner), Battery not charging (stator/rectifier overheated), cracked weld at the front of the frame (right off).

Overall they're a great bike. I had mine almost 10 years and would still be on it now if I didn't get itchy feet. Still got the RR6 though.
