    Hi All
Don’t know if anyone of you seen my post on FB forum last week regarding my 08 blade going down to 3 cylinders.
Stripped it down today and this is what I found.. see photo.. any ideas what’s caused this.

Is that overheating or oil deposits, not easy to tell from the pic (or where you stuck it to take it!!)

Do you notice one of your exhaust header pipes glowing more or less than the others?

Ignition timing, valve clearances, spark plug itself?

Hi.. look's like the electrode has failed or broken off.

I have seen this before (on a car, not a bike though.. but its still a petrol ICE), where the spark plug now arc's to the top of the piston crown - and in turn the soft aluminum on the piston will melt and erode a hole. I'm seeing aluminium deposits (or what looks like it from a photo!!) on the plug in the picture you share.

Would suggest you find a bore scope and look down the cylinder to assess damage.

I am guessing you have tried a new plug in there? Did that solve the issue?

yes totally melted it. Bike was running fine till this so going to stick a plug in and see what happens and hope it hasn’t caused any damage.

There’s literally nothing left of the plug it’s been burnt away. Didn’t notice nothing odd bikes been running fine. Going to have a look inside and if all’s well try another plug and see what happens

This is not a piston from a fireblade.

But you you can see the damage caused when the spark plug electrode is missing, and the spark plug is arcing on the piston crown.

Hoping that yours doesn't look like this!!

there is a lot of oil on the plug thread. Is this how it came out??
brand and model of the spark plug. If it were the wrong type / heat range, then it could cause problems for the electrode.
Since the bike was running fine with no overheating, it could be just a failed plug.
Make sure you get irridium plugs and preferably Denso

Was a ngk iridium so hopefully just a one off duff plug. Going to stick a new one in and try it and if all’s well replace the other 3.

As well as having a look with a scope, I’d also check the compression.

    good luck

    Could it be overfueling?
