I am a natural sceptic of anything the gov says, so I have done a little research about the new vaccine ( I do not want to be an uninformed Guinea pig ) Looking at the lancet it seems the figure of 95% effective that has been thrown about, may not be quite as people expect 95% to mean. The 95% is based on what is called Efficacy if you look closely you will see this. Efficacy is your target result for your vaccine, it could be 10% reduction, The figure or stats have not been disclosed so you could get a 10% reduction and claim 100% success This vaccine does not stop you catching or transmitting covid it is designed to stop you dying from it, The Gov has a dilemma, allegedly those vaccinated will become classed as super carriers as they will still get covid but will get less symptoms but still pass the covid on to anyone that has not had the vaccine. This is why one way or another they will try to force people to have it. The vaccine is classed and passed as an emergency vaccine which accepts a few casualty's and ongoing research and a suck it and see approach. When I am told to trust what the Gov says, Masks are no good, wait, maybe they they are Anyone else looked into this Needless to say I am a NO
Not for me. Although I say this with no major research into it. I dont like the speed at which it has come about. 10 months for something that can take up to ten years previously. Plus the fact it is a new type of vaccine, RNA? Might have that wrong. I'd like to think something that has not been used before would go through long term testing. All well and good being told its approved and safe but what after 18 months, 5 years, 10 years, 30 years. Manufacturers are exempt from prosecution if the shit hits the fan? Not sure if that is a true statement however I believe with other vaccines the users are compensated etc if things go wrong although not sure how much that helps if you are seriously medically affected. And having not long turned 30, fingers crossed fit and well with no underlying issues, I would like to think I'd be of the high percentage of people who can deal with the virus without an experimental vaccine. I'm regimental with hand washing before eating and touching face etc so like to think my chances of it getting to me in the first place are minimised. Been in a few motorway services lately and the amount of people not washing their hands after being in the toilet, bad enough without a pandemic but no wonder the virus has spread so easily.
I'm certainly not an anti vaccination person but I'm not keen on being given something that is clearly rushed through by a company that has had its fair share of controversy in the past and lawsuits to boot... From my limited knowledge of medicine we have zero properly effective vaccines against ANY of the known corona viruses, and we are expected to believe that we now have one for a completely new one in 8 months... The government have lied consistently regarding stats throughout all of this, so I'm not a great believer in anything they say.. Thankfully being 43 I should be near the back of the queue but will avoid it if at all possible. @Jez I also read an article where another scientist debunked the 95% as massively overstated and not explained properly..but sadly my mathematical skills were found wanting trying to understand his workings..will try and dig it out..
This is classed as an emergency vaccine, this is totally different to a normal vaccine generally they are made to stop you catching the virus this one seems to be designed to reduce the weekly deaths, as an emergency vaccine I think it has to be about 50% reduction in deaths to get approved this will not fully look into any long term issues, they have said it is not for under 16 or pregnant women
Sorry, I might be about to upset a few people again... I'll take the vaccine. Remember, it's more for the benefit of everyone else, not so much for ourselves. This virus is a killer, let's stand up to it, even if there's an element of personal risk.
If it’s a choice between playing vaccine Russian roulette or remaining locked up for the rest of my life, I think I’d rather put the vaccine gun to my head and pull the trigger. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but although there’s not a whole lot of certainty about the vaccines, there seems to be a fair bit of miss information circulating.
The problem for alot of people is they would like to know what risk, granted if any, there is from the vaccine. They cannot say long term this will be ok as they have no long term testing. I realise they want to act quickly and I'm sure the people tasked with making sure this is safe have done everything they can but that does not rule out complications further down the line. Why is talk of the antibody test non existent now. If millions of people have antibodies surely that is millions less that need a vaccine. The media keep saying 1 in 5 wont get the vaccine. Why is Boris compelled to take it on national TV, that tells me the general population is more sceptical then they let on.
As I understand it the Moderna & Pfizer vaccines are a new type of vaccine. The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine uses traditional proven tech. Not sure how much choice we'll get though.
the vaccine doesn't stop you from catching the virus. It helps the immune system get rid of it. Until this phase, you are still contageous and can pass it on. I think this message has not been properly broadcasted. So face covering, distancing needs to carry on. 95% recovery is probably as good as the flu vaccin which has been used for years. Since it is an emergency situation, it is a solution which any government would adopt. What is the alternative? Carry on testing for another 2 years to have more sample of people who have taken it? The good thing is that health workers being the first one is good because their response can be closely monitored in a medical environment. Once again I knock the mainstream media for their constant and regularly unsubstantiated criticism, doom & gloom journalism. All for financial gain. I wonder when they will re-focus on brexit and bombard us with more depressing so called "new".
Haven't done much research but I'd assume the most vulnerable will be given it first. So the people most likely to suffer fatalities from the virus will mass 'test' it first - so it the vulnerable taking the initial risks for the rest of us - thoughts?
The old and vulnerable have the most to gain old don't need to worry about long term, We are still going to catch it vaccine or not, most casualty's have known underlying conditions, so if you are fit and healthy chances are you will be ok without it. The thing is this vaccine has been sold to the public with the impression 95% of people will not catch covid when they have had the vaccine, this is not the case
4 people in my family all caught it and brushed it off with no fuss whatsoever, all of who were 60+, some with severe underlying issues and one is 90 years old! Seems to me that the vast majority of the population can handle covid without a vaccine. Wonder if it will turn into as big of a waste of money as the track and trace system. I'd like to just take my chances without the vaccine but you can already sense whats going to happen....no getting on a flight without the vaccine.
Two people I know have died of covid-19 in their 50's with no under lying health problems either, pot luck whether you get a bad case or not it seems? My wife is a nurse and knew a 30 year that died, again no under lying health problems either, so although it may well be fine for most of us, not for all
