I am subscribed to the gov.uk updates on MOT Rules...some new interesting rules regarding Headlights, LEDs and conversions.

    TL;DR -
Some motorcycles may be fitted with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) headlamps. Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with HID or LED bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.

At my last service I was informed my sequential tail indicator/tail light a reason for failure but this is what the MOT manual says.

"Direction indicators that function sequentially/dynamically are not to be considered a reason to fail".

I was thinking I'd have to put my indicators on for the MOT, but now I'm not so sure

The manual says they should be fine as you say and my KTM passed with aftermarket sequential lights at a Kawasaki dealership at the end of last year.

Simple. Just disconnect all lights and get a daytime MOT. Who rides at night anyway :D

im pretty sure that any lights fitted to any vehicle have to function correctly come MOT time, disconnecting them would be a fail as i understand it

My previous sequential tail light failed an MOT a few years back. I think it was something to do with - when the indictors came on half the brake light would go off. I don't believe that is the case with this newer tail light.
But I do notice in the link to the guidance, that issue doesn't get a mention.

You could be right as a daytime MOT is a normal MOT with advisories for no lights. If you ride it at night then you get done for having no lights on at night rather than having the wrong MOT.
So I'd like to think that a decent MOT tester would get the idea and not actually expect you to remove the lights.

indicator blinkg rate can be an MOT failure (generally too fast)
HID, LED aftermarket are not legal for normal road use (for off road use only). Commong knowledge and sellers generally state this.
