Educate people to use their adaptive cruise control where fitted. That would make motorways a lot safer straight away. :D

Interesting T.C. Sadly I think there’s many drivers out there who haven’t read the Highway Code since they passed their test.

Good job we are not still in the 70's or sooner...

Back then under the old rules, when you signed your licence, it also included a declaration and an undertaking that you would maintain your knowledge of the Highway Code and read said document on a regular basis.

Breaches of the Highway Code and more to the point a clear lack of knowledge as in it had not been read opened the door for drivers to be reported for fraudulent obtaining of a driving licence.

Nobody ever got done for it (although I threatened a few centre lane hoggers back in the day when they quoted total b*llocks,) but it was actually written into previous regulations.

Once we changed over to the photo licence, that regulation went right out of the window, but it was there once upon a time when I was a young whippersnapper traffic cop...

Sadly loads of people think they only need to read the highway code to pass their driving test :(

    I am/was one of those
Had no interest in it at all. Just something that you had to do to get a license

M OST of it is common sense.
I added some comment about my hate pet:
People cutting back in front dangerously after overtaking on motorways and dual carriageways. 2second rule should apply when following and after overtaking

This is the reason they are pushing for driverless vehicles, if over 90% of RTA's are driver error, take the driver out the loop and save thousands in lives and billions in money and time wasted/dekays attending.
Won't effect us oldies, but will happen in the future for sure.

I wished people would remember Mirror-Signal-Manoeuvre are separate things, which shouldn't be condensed into Signal-Manoeuvre as a simultaneous operation.

Yes. Locking the front wheel on a wet road isn't my favourite.
