So let's start on this Super League debacle.

Tottenham, WTF are they doing there?
Chelsea, barely scrape it as past their prime
Liverpool won f××k all for years but on a good few years
    ManUre fading away
Arsenal, sorry Gooners you are alongside ManUre this time
Man City, on a crest so would probably be there.

Three of these clubs have never won the European Cup, one has not won the domestic top league since 1961

Clubs that whinge their players have too many games to play in a season can suddenly make them available for more matches. To me this isn't anything beyond their Boards being money grabbers, nothing Super about it, just plain unadulterated greed and self preservation.

They would have been whinging like shit it previous eras when they were mere normal clubs and others were at the top, Bolton Preston and Blackpool used to rule the roost at various times.

The Special One booted out of Spurs, anyone else wonder if that is a coincidence?

Klopp hoping it never happens and publicly standing by his previous comments about it being a bad idea.

No German / French / Dutch / Belgian clubs, so not exactly a European Superleague, not to mention that 3 of the 5 Executives if it are American.

Is this a serious attempt to set up a seperate entity, or is it just politicking to get these "big" clubs a better deal from the next round of European Cup negotiations?

    Good post matey.
Greed has been eating away at the game for many many years, the mega rich individuals that own these clubs can see an opportunity to control the game themselves and not the governing bodies, who ironically are calling foul even though their behaviour over the last couple of decades has hardly been stellar. Cant really see how it’s a super league without ze Germans and the French contender though.

Think personally the main coincidence is that the Hammers are the cusp of qualifying for Europe and its shit the life out of them thinking what we might do when we go on tour :D:D, even got my new GHIC card in readiness.

    It centers around the fans.
Covid has shown these billionaires how they can monetise the game in the absence of the "legacy fans" as they call us.
The new Super League is the genesis of 'new football'; it will turn into something like the NFL and it's franchised teams.

Think about the names...Arsenal, City, United, Spurs, Juve, Real....all very generic and not tied to any particular geographic location.
Soon they will introduce one or two games a season over in the U.S.A. and that will be just the start, one or more of these teams will be relocated.

JP Morgan do not just give a 5 BILLION dollar loan out, without a cast iron guarantee on the future return.

    Embrace it.
It's designed for the digital age, all the kids now watching people play FIFA on the playstation streamed on You Tube......there the future target audience, not us old dinosaurs.

Interesting PoV @hitch , unsurprisingly I have felt alienated from football for some time now, ever since they starting having to introduce chanting areas where it was allowed to be loud. Guess I am one of the old and unwanted types who helped them make it through the barren years.
