    Hi All

I am a new biker from Aberdeen, I am basically from India and had moved to Aberdeen 2.5 yrs back.

I am not particularly new to riding and had a Yamaha YZF R15 back in India for about 10 yrs.

I am in process of getting my big bike licence (CBT and Theory test done - Mod 1 & 2 lined up next)

I have a brief experience of going for a quick ride on friends Repsol CBR1000RR in India it was 2006 or 07 and in love with that bike ever since looking to get it now here in UK.

Any suggestions, do’s and dont’s for such an old bike? Also all bikes that I am looking at are outside Aberdeen (mostly England) with dealers they are ready to deliver but not sure if I should get a bike unseen, can I trust dealer’s word for it regarding the condition or traveling to location is the only option?

    Cheers!

    HI Mate,
Welcome to the forum,I would never buy a bike unseen, i know some people are happy with a few pictures or a walk around video, but i would request both as a minimum before i decided to travel to view the bike ,then get the dealer to deliver.Dealers can be hit and miss,

With the bikes you're looking at being 14-15 years old it would probably be quite risky to buy one without looking.

If you find one you like, post the link on the forum, someone may well know the dealership or the bike itself. That might help you out.

Superbikefactory at Macclesfield is worth being extra cautious about aswell, they have a lot of stock so may well have something that fits your criteria but they have their fair share of tatty bikes.

    Good luck with the search.

Hi and welcome! As others have said my preference is to see a bike in the flesh, pictures and videos can be deceiving especially on an older bike. I always go with my GUT:p feeling and due diligence before even going to look at a bike. Pics, vids and Info whilst also looking at reviews if a dealership. Followed by a trip down and do the deal. Always go with your head, as the heart can make you contemplate bad decisions in the heat of the moment!

I went to Blackpool for my bike (from Cambridge) 450 mile round trip but I would have been prepared to walk away. I’d rather lose a day and £40 of diesel than buy a lemon and try for months to get a resolution.

best of luck with the licence, remember it’s only as fast as your right wrist ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Echoing above, its always best to view in the flesh and from a dealer that is within travelling distance should there be any problems. I would consider delivery from further a field but only on a much newer bike say one or two years old. Good luck with the search......and the bike test!

I'd get some insurance quotes too ;)

Look for evidence of servicing. They’re strong bikes and I run my 2007 as a track bike and make no concession to its age. Welcome.

Thanks for suggestions everyone, got myself a blade its 2012 all stock except tail tidy and was 3600 miles. Got it locally so was able to check and test ride it before buying.

Figuring out ways to make it louder now “legally” AB430044-6D88-4026-9624-1188A9266728.jpeg 09E04DAC-28E5-4F46-8FEF-E437E6A45E17.jpeg 9689F091-DD49-44CE-9868-2D67C897ACCC.jpeg AB1CE327-1564-4768-8AD1-89A6D6D1BEFD.jpeg AB430044-6D88-4026-9624-1188A9266728.jpeg
